And an attempt to make a reefer out of the wood boxcar...

Bit more to do on the color, and to get Michael to do the roof hatches... !*roll-laugh*!

Here's what's fun about these; These are the old cardboard sides for the early OO scale cars slightly updated. The kit came with a milled roof, a wood frame, and you mounted the cardboard sides and ends on it. I have two or three more that I'm going to do, including a 'Scout' AT&SF boxcar, and a 'Route Map' Boxcar. Also one or two more of the 36 ft reefer...

Hi Mike,

These look fantastic! You've probably noticed this already, but just for the record, the side texture of the 50' is maybe 10% stretched along the length of the car, so text or circular logos should be 'squeezed' by about 10%.

Also, I used the trainbumpspec shader on the main body of the car, so it's quite important to keep the medium-dark grey alpha channel intact so the car won't look like somebody just poured glue all over it.

If you can wait a little while longer, I'll build a 33' or 36' wooden reefer soon. With proper roof hatches and insulated doors. I'll try to use the same texture and mapping as I did on the 36' box, so you could use the same repaint texture on the reefer too.

Cheers,
Michael

I'll wait... While you are doing these cars, will you make a static scenery object with no trucks/bogeys out of the 36ft box or reefer? Lots of farmers used old railcars on blocks with a ramp to the bottom of the door for dry storage of grain and hay, and they'd add a nice touch to a farm scene on a more modern route. MOW crews also used old railcars for parts storage alongside the tracks. The aged effect I got on the Soo reefer wouldn't look out of place in either service. *!greengrin!*

Yea, I been battling with this for a bit. I may have to flatten all the layers, rasterize it, and then shrink it.

Linde. Cool.
It's a German company specialized on cooling techniques.

The car actually had a Dewar cryogenic tank inside mounted in a shock mounting for double protection. They shipped liquid oxygen and other cryo gases in the car.

This one's a little oddity...

Colored to blend in with the rest of the passenger cars, and equipped with steam lines, they ran expedited freight on a passenger schedule.
