I'm more excited for the assets this route will provide for modification of other routes. The DLC itself will be boring, 7 min each way going wicked fast. Meh.

However, take the track and train and make a "NY-New Haven in year 2070". Have maglev tracks near/above the existing route with stations at only the major stops (NH, Stamford, NYC). Figuring out how to make this is why I'll buy this DLC (assuming it's not the full $40 for such a short route).

Just my $0.02

The true story is confidential and not for me to disclose, neither should anyone else that agreed to the NDA.

However, I can say we start many projects, some have to wait, some don't get off the ground but most get completed.
We are in touch with many train operating companies from around the world and each one is different and culture plays a large part too.

What's interesting is that the Sanyo Shinkansen route was on a UK train sim site for free for a while. It is obviously no longer there lol. I'm glad I got it before the download went down. !**duh*!!

EDIT: Nevermind... it's still online lol

I remember seeing a Sanyo Shinkansen V2 under development by the same devs; unfortunately youtube decided to block the video in the US because of the song used... Off the top of my head I remember it featured new Shinkansen sets like the 0系, 100系, 200系 (maybe?), and an upgraded 300系 (from the original). Excuse the Kanji's I'm a bit of a Japanese train nerd !**duh*!! , 系(kei) simply means system, series, class, etc. when referring to train classification. I wonder if it's still in progress or not as I can't find anything more recent on it.

I will give you guys credit for releasing Donner Pass v2.0 ...although after fixing an entire route, why a simple coupler fix couldn't be worked on as well just boggles the mind. !*don-know!*

As for this Maglev train? I agree with many on here. I see it being a likely frame-rate killer, very boring and don't see it selling a lot. What I will give it credit for is thinking outside the box and somewhat diversifying the DLC offerings.

I on the other hand won't buy it cuz high-speed trains (especially maglevs) don't really interest me.

There's nothing inferred in Derek's post that he's taken issue with anything as far as I can see? !*don-know!*
"Life is like a journey, taken on a train
With a pair of travelers at each windowpane.
I may sit beside you all the journey through,
Or I may sit elsewhere, never knowing you.
But if fate should mark me to sit by your side,
Let's be pleasant travellers; it's so short a ride."

My guess is that this DLC is sponsored by the transportation company or manufacturer, like the other Chinese high speed DLC.

I also think it is boring and won't buy it. I can see this as one of those perennial sale items and perhaps being binned pretty soon.

Does a Maglev even have a driver? I thought all were automatic single track end-to-end shuttles?

Like other have said, it could provide us with some useful assets, and it is an engineering study in guided surface bound transportation systems.
Would be interesting to see if the carriage actually levitates off when leaving the platform and gently lowers itself when the doors are about to be opened at the next platform.

JNR won't likely authorise a model of their Shinkansen trains to non Japanese game studios. It's a trust/culture thing?

Who says it stops levitating? When I rode on it, I never noticed any vertical movement.

Perhaps it doesn't need to touch down on station stops? I believe there are permanent magnets strong enough nowadays. Some magnetic track brakes on high speed trains use permanent magnets that are rotated into working position by gravity. They work when no power is available, and can are used as parking brakes also.

Wether the carriage is self-levitating or levitated electromagnetically and self propelled, it moves along a passive linear stator. The carriage does need to be fed with electricity by means of contact shoes.
Or the carriage is completely unpowered and is pulled along the active linear stator through self-induction, much like an endlessly long unwrapped AC motor. The "squirrel cage" rotor in this case is passive coils in the undercarriage. That will require active coils in the "track" plus sophisticated electronics to control the movement. Good for short distances, but impractical for long distance service.

Interesting technology for sure.

Even if it did "stop levitating" at low speeds, you would likely not notice, as the difference is only about an inch or so, I want to say.

SOME would notice and show close ups from a foot away to show that it's not prototypical. !*roll-laugh*! !*roll-laugh*! !*roll-laugh*!
