Horn button on the HUD?

Unread postby JohnS » Sun Jan 24, 2016 7:34 am

Does anybody know where I can see the settings for the HUD horn button? I've notice on the F40 that the HUD button plays the horn really nice but the space bar kinda cuts off the beginning and end of the sounds. When using the HUD button it plays I think as it should. Any editing ideas or know where to look?

Not knowing anything about this particular locomotive, I can only give you non-specific information. The horn sound specifics are located in the particular locomotives Audio/proxybin/proxyxml file. There, you will see a setting for "Horn Start" and "Horn end". The horn sound file is broken into three sections, with the Start and End files overlapping the looping Middle file. Adjusting the overlap of the Start and End will give you a smoother horn or cause gapping.

I am fairly certain that the problem that you describe is a core game bug. I have noticed while mastering my horns that if you set the horn up to blow smoothly from the Mouse handle pull and the spacebar, you will have a gap from the HUD button. One more reason a loathe the childish looking controller.

That would explain why it sounds good one way and not the other. I was testing the horn when I noticed the HUD button sounded better. I never use the HUD buttons so that's what made it weird. I guess I need to find out what to change in the xml file to make it smoother. Thank you

It has to do with the digital and analog sensitivity setting in the engines .bin file that contains the control blueprint for the horn. An easier solution is to replace the horn proxy with something like my, or Kevins work where the horn is in two parts rather than three.

Thanks Anthony I'll look into it more. *!!thnx!!* !!*ok*!! !*salute*! !**duh*!!

well adjusting those values changed the way the HUD interacted with the valve but not the keyboard or mouse. The keyboard and mouse seem to just be On then Off. there isn't a smooth transition.
