We have 30,000 gig a month of BW, might use 1 on a busy month. !*roll-laugh*! Everything is $150 a month. 1.5 TB of space. The half TB is for backups.

Hi Bob,

Another thing to consider is that breaking up an archive might also cause a noticable increase in "HELP! How do I install that!" support queries. Split Zip archives can quickly become a nightmare, but also having several rwp files can be an issue for some less "RW accustomed" users. So if bandwidth is not an issue as you say, I'd go for the easier to install single large file.

Cheers

A file that size would not be a problem for me personally.

My download speed is a paltry 0.75 megabytes/sec ( English rural area) but I'm happy with your 0.7 GB - because it's a background task.

For comparison, Knotenpunkt Hamburg has just moved to (beta) version 1.5.1.2 - that's a 1.3 GB download for the content (assets are extra). And, if one's life is not totally monomaniac, it's no problem...

Kind regards,

Well mine's dial up speed compared to yours. It's wifi capped at around 300kbs per second, and it takes a minimum of around an hour to download a gigabyte worth of data.

What's the average download speed for home broadband in the US nowadays?

I got a Comcast/Xfinity wireless modem/router. On Steam I dl at speeds of 8 MB/S to 11 MB/S. When I FTP to RWA I get 2400 KB/S and upload of 500 KB/S. I dl'd a 9 gig game from Steam the other day and it took 8 minutes. My Comcast fees are $130 a month. I have Internet, TV with HD package and all of the Premium channels except the 3 TMCs, 3 boxes and 1 DVR and have digital phone. So I am grinning all the time.

Also a point was brought up to me the other day about web browsers not liking huge files. My friend says around 400 meg is pushing it.

The Assets are 1.2 gig, the fleet is 630 meg and the route is 60 meg. I am going to break the assets in to 2 parts and use the RW Tools installer. The fleet and route are RWP files.

Is it already available so I might give it a try? Most webbrowsers cache their downloads in their own storage space once you click the download link, the cache is flushed out to the designated downloads directory once you've clicked OK in the Save As dialog window. Best click that Save As buttion as soon as possible to prevent the cache from getting filled up and stalling the download and possible other browsing windows.

Personally I am a big advocate for small file sizes, I might have a leet connection (200Mb/sec down, 20Mb/sec up) but i know there are still many out there that have slow connections, data limits and other download-slowing issues. Breaking up a download if possible gives people the possibiliy to download a large program, route or whatever in their own time and pace without them having to deplete their datalimit or long wating until theri internet speed for other things is back to what they consider normal.
