TS2016 Sound

Unread postby StrategyFirst » Sun Sep 27, 2015 2:40 am

Anyone else having a problem with TS2016 constantly not loading audio everywhere, including the main menu? This happens more often than it works! I have to close out the game a wait a few minutes before it will work again. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Fortunately for me, I keep the so-called main menu music turned off. Perhaps it's off by default? Are you having any other sound problems? (Hearing sounds, I mean, not judging them.)

This has been a continuous problem for some, including me, with former editions of TS20xx. So far, I have not had the problem at all with TS16. (I have the free update). But it's early.

Rather than waiting a lengthy period before you re-start the sim, try clearing the cache and re-starting immediately. While this didn’t work consistently for me with TS14, it worked nearly every time with TS15. And when it didn’t, following clearing the cache with a computer re-start worked. As I said, I haven’t needed to do this yet with TS16.

You can also search the train sim forums or google the issue to see how others have found relief, e.g. computer audio and sound card settings, etc. None of them worked for me though.

No, I mean it's like the program isn't using my speakers at all... !*don-know!*

I had an annoying frequent no-sound problem in TS2015 under windows 8.1 which I fixed by awakening any sound in my PC (I usually used the loudspeaker volume Icon) and then starting TS2015.

Once I upgraded to Windows 10 the bug was over forever (it was one of the gifts I got from W10 !!*ok*!! ) and I have not experienced it back in TS2016. However I never play with the menu music on.

One common solution for sound problems (under windows 8):

Rename your OpenAL32.dll in the Railworks folder to something else. (Eg. OpenAL32.dll.bak)

Evidently multiple versions of the DLL in the system can confuse and lock up the audio system. Deleting or renaming the railworks copy forces windows to use whichever is the default version of the DLL. Works for me.

This has been a constant problem for me.
I just quit the game, wait until the disc drive light has calmed down, then restart.

I'll try Pavig's fix though.

I tried the renaming fix, but got an error when I tried to launch the game saying that the OpenAL32.dll is missing and that I need to reinstall the game. Changed it back and now just loading over and over again until it finally comes back with sound.
