I can run the Big Boy on Cajon Pass but not on Sherman Hill Challenger also fails on Sherman. Odd! Perhaps the problem is in the scenario?

Today I copied over the Big Boy files from TS14. It did restore all the sounds. Thanks for that. The headlight still does not work, so it seems necessary to install the fix found here in the File Library.

I appreciate your help.

Al

You have to install both BB mods. The 2nd has the fix on the front headlight.
It seems that the whistle is much better than the original, too.
And I have to do the same. That original Big Boy is really broken. Huge problems on steam, lack of particles (I could work something on those myself). No steam depletion seen in the HUD or F5 with full reverser forward and full regulator. I hope the mods will fix some of them.
The engine sounds are not OK either. That habit of increasing volume when regulator is increased is wrong. It is in several US steamers.
Other than the FEF3 and Connie which are quite special, the K4 is my favorite in spite of several problems.

I will check the Challenger tonight, but I tested the Big Boy somewhere else since I did not have SH route until a couple of days ago. I did not restore any files for the Challenger.

Thanks very much for the tip! I will install both mods.

A site in the UK who specialise in doing authentic steam sounds for TS steam locos Steam Sounds Supreme http://www.steamsoundssupreme.com/ were once asking on Trainsim for some authentic steam sounds for the Big Boy and Challenger. Don't think anyone replied to the thread. If anyone knows of any sounds for them or where they could get some send them a message via there site or Face Book page. Be good to have proper sounds for these locos. No I have nothing to do with SSS. They did the sounds for the Riviera 1950s route steam locos.

Looks great, all particles too.
I wonder if the stack has double flow. I mean, the front truck does it behave as an independent loco as in the MSTS?

They are certainly very good. The problem is that they only design sounds for British rolling stock.

As I said they were asking for Big Boy and Challenger sounds. They would do any DTG Steam Loco if they got authentic sounds for them. Not just the chuffing sounds but sounds from injectors etc.

I noticed that they repackaged the Big Boy and the Challenger as well. I had to unzip them first to get any access to the files to continue tinkering away at them. I worried at first that it was going to make the steamers "read only", but thankfully they can still be modified. Good thing I kept a back up of my mods *!greengrin!*

As a temporary fix for the sounds personally I aliased the engine sounds to the Challenger and downloaded a different whistle from the library here.

Even if they made them read only all you have to do is go in and change the file properties or use the batch change from RWTools. I do it all the time.

Haven't got RW tools yet, but I've tried changing the properties and then editing the files. Every time I do that the engine doesn't render in-game.
