D&RGW SD45

I've been playing around with Marleyman's SD45 D&RGW repaint. It always looked to bright to me.
I added the logo on the nose, tried to make the shadow lines more visible and mute the colors some. The original is in the background.

On this one I faded out the colors some. The plan is to dirty this one up!

Excellent work so far...however...DRGW was a little more darker black. What you and Marleyman seem to have is a deep rich blue hue.

Your orange is a little more spot on than the black, but maybe try matching from the photo to get a little more accuracy (if you prefer not to, okay by me).

On my monitor this looks blue. I was under the impression that D&RGW locomotives were black fading and dirtying (my word) to kind of a sooty gray.

Here's what I have. (Converted SP version repaint.) I believe they had dark blue and dark grey. Not quite black.

To each their own, I guess. *!!wink!!*

Both versions are a very welcome update on the originals! Whether they are a very dark blue, or a very dark grey, they will look pretty similar under a thick layer of coal dust !!*ok*!!

Ahh! I don't have the SP version. That one has a light on the nose and a front plow like the D&RGW. The silver trucks don't appear to be correct either. Oh well.
Anyway, I never realized how blue it was!

On my setup it looks like a faded black, to a very dark almost black grey.

I was interested in this too, as the DRGW SD45's I have look too blue as well. Tried different weather and lighting conditions in game and it made no difference.....still blue.

Googled DRGW Colors and read a lot of references....
Like this one: http://utahrails.net/drgw/rg-diesel-paint-schemes.php

It appears they should all be "coal" black.

Just popped out for a look at the real stuff, in our coal bunker. Yes, we really have domestic coal fires in open grates...

Good quality coal is not black, it's dark grey with blueish tints. Some poor quality coal tends to be a touch browner, a bit like lignite.

Tar now, that's like black glass when freshly split...

Just thought that might help... *!!wink!!*

Kind regards,
