Come to think of it, I seen the real thing recently coming through the Windermere sub, there were 100 of them in Sultran livery, a treat to see considering they stopped using them for westbound coal unit due to them being heavy and consuming too much fuel. Here's the video:

What did CP do with the cars that were formerly in unit coal service?

They still use them for coal service, but they go east to Thunder Bay for unloading. Reason being is cause they use too much fuel to go over Rogers Pass, the reason they ship the coal to Thunder Bay is unknown. That could mean they can be used for the new trans Canada route.

There are a few things we have to do before they are released: reskins, auto numbering and the loads for the cars. For paint schemes I have red and black CP Multimark, CP with a white stripe,2 Sultran schemes and Procor if there are any schemes for these cars I missed please let me know and I might be able to do it as well in the pack. I am also hoping to include a scenario or two for the Canadian Mountain Passes route.

wow that is awesome work. can't wait to try the hoppers out :) keep up the good work.

Started some texturing today but hit a road block with how the textures are done and the how the cars are painted. Let me know what you think of the textures so far (the sides aren't done because of the road block).

Those look great! You've got that 'dusty' look perfectly for the sides of the cars!

The painting does look excellent! Now if you can make a realistic coal load, they are perfect. Great job!

Ah yes, I see I made a mistake. *!embar*! Should have said sulfur, not coal. Car looks beautiful no matter what its payload is!

Since the topic was COAL hoppers that's a easy mistake to make.

I would say the car is looking great, almost 100% spot on with the paint choices. The only change I would make is to the interior of the car, usually these are painted a light cream colour. It doesn't get discoloured from the sulphur so it will always stay like that. I've loaded hundreds of these cars when I worked at a gas plant a little while ago and these cars are going downhill fast for sulphur...big holes where the rubber float drains are, rust patches all over the car, and the insides where repairs have done have blue patches....usually around 1ft square sections depending on the size of repair. Also do note that some of these cars have a red iron oxide primer like interior too...definitely not as common as the cream colour but I would say around 3/100 are like this.

Keep up the good work! !!*ok*!!

thecanadianrail-

What form did the loads on these take? Are they like a flood load, smooth on top about 50% full? 100% full? I've seen one that looks like three cylinders on their sides in the car and I was looking to see if that's realistic. Or is it more like bucket load coal where there's a bunch of irregular humps in it? Just asking since you have loaded these before, and I'm the one loading these.

Thanks, Daniel

The coal hoppers are flat top loads with a slight dip at either end, it's what I used to see and still do even with the modern ones. I live on the Windermere Sub and I get coal trains all the time here, unfortunately I don't see the older Teoli cars any more, as they are now used to haul coal east to Thunder Bay largely due to an impact they take on the fuel economy of the engines going over Rodger's pass, but that's not gonna stop people from using them on the CMP route as they could easily change the era by just using sd40's to pull them or even use the es4400's in older liveries, like the bever badge, or the infamous flags livery. As for the Sultran units, I can't tell you the details of their loads as the one I shot in the video was from ground level, so I couldn't see the load inside, but I'd imagine they'd be flattop load with dips at either end like the coal loads, but at a little bit lower than the rim.

Man, that it looking amazing!
Here in York, PA York Railway Company has many industries to serve, and one takes one or two of those kinds of hoppers, and never have I seen one here that doesn't say Sultran. I have seen them loaded various ways, from being loaded flat to the complete top of the car to being half loaded with three small humps. I've seen them loaded with dirt and other stuff, too, with the dirt being dumped in randomly.
