TS2016 article on Engine Driver

Unread postby TDHenderson » Fri May 01, 2015 2:13 pm

I see the other "Extreme" thread was locked, but here is a new article that I have not seen mentioned here yet.

Of interest is this bit.

What do we mean by exclusive content?

There will be some content in TS 2016 that will be available for the first time in TS 2016 and the only way that it will be available to you is when you buy TS 2016.

Quotation from link posted above:
We challenge you to command the Class 365 while negotiating the busy rail network to meet your timetable - the clock is against you, do you have what it takes to master your machine and get a perfect score?

Sounds like a typical ca-rear scenario from the current or previous editions to me.

On other forums some people still think the Unreal version of TS is coming out this year. It is not coming out this year instead we are getting TS2016 as per normal. No one has said when the Unreal version is coming out, not even DTG, all they are saying, it is coming out when it is ready.

An interesting marketing idea came to mind in the last paragraph. I know there has been talk (possibly confirmation from DTG?) that the current content will not work with the Unreal 4 game. Their best bet is to sell two sims, this one & the next concurrently: double their money & not kick their loyal customers to the dirt immediately. A guy like myself might buy content for both. People are crying real big tears in another sim community as their older game versions loose support. As unrealistic as TS-anything is, I still get enjoyment from playing it. :)

Unless UE4 gives you " knock your socks off " improvement in the way the game looks and runs, I seriously doubt that most people will put all their existing DLC in the trash bin, and buy all new DLC for TS UE4, not to mention maybe having to upgrade their hardware to take full benefit of the UE4 engine. Look at all the people that still run MSFS9 because they couldn't see dumping all the software they had on their FS9, for some small changes that were in FSX.

point 1: So, we're discussing whether unreal is real or unreal?

point 2: So, bringing out the unreal before it is ready would be better than bringing out the real when it is ready?

I agree with this. I ran FS9 right up until I quit FS because I just couldn't see redoing the huge amount of time, money and effort I put into the sim to go with the new x-version. I got e-mails for two years about why I hadn't updated airports and airplanes that I made for FS9 after I bailed.

How many would be using MSTS if MSTS2 had of come out.

...and just to add another element of confusion to the mix, Crosstie Studios will be developing their UE4 based train sim at the same time DTG develops theirs! !*roll-laugh*!

That would have depended on how good MSTS2 was. Many did not like FSX and stayed with FS9 as you stated earlier. With a world full of crybabies no one would have liked MSTS2 for some reason or another. Everyone wants it their way, that would be great if we all got our way...

You are right, and I can't wait to hear the screaming and yelling and carrying on that will be certain to follow the release of TS UE4.

I bet they are gonna make it nearly impossible to repaint any of the new trains released in the new graphics engine, and I'm with you on that Bob.

Okay, I'll bite and call your bluff: what leads you to make this "bet"?
