Is that an un-patched SP?

Ha. Saw this unit a few years ago while chasing something else, any guesses?

It kinda looks like air pumps on the smokebox, but it could be a bad pic of 844.

Papa, is that West Oaktown? Very familiar look to that yard... *!greengrin!*

Rare sight for sure. SP locos in general will just get rarer and rarer. Then all we will have left is those few museum examples, video and pictures to remember it.

It's weird how we get so emotionally attached to these railroads. It's kinda depressing now that they are fallen flags.....20 years for SP come next year. A railroad that was known for dirty locos (the way I like'em!) and using LOTS of them (sometimes overkill *!greengrin!* )... as these old photos at ilmon, CA will attest to...

I took this picture about 2 years ago.

Saw it from I5 and did a double take.

Kinda. The engine works (what's left of them) are the norther part of the West Oakland yard. The yard foremost in the picture is Oakland Terminal.

I didn't know you were working on the Capital Corridor.

It looks like you're running from Roseville to San Jose... ?

I saw the Niles sign on the hill, will this include the Fremont Interlocker, the old W.P. line to Niles and or the old section to the Ford and GM plants? Basically the East Bay trackage.

I know I'm asking too much, but Oakland to Stockton via Niles Canyon?

Um... that is what the blog is for. I have all the info there.

I was not going to stop at Pleasanton with the SP/WP east bound. I had a gentleman's agreement with another route developer not lay track to Stockton.

Yes Roseville to San Jose, including Niles and all its history... and if you read my blog you would know why. *!!wink!!*

I agree. Back when I was a kid railfanning in the pacific northwest with my dad, I used to really regret missing out on the Milwaukee Road's time. I didn't think for a second then that the days were coming soon where scarlet and grey, and evergreen and black diesels would become extinct, and that I was seeing the last of those legendary roads as their own entities. I think that is one of the reasons I really enjoy this sim.

I don't care if it has a patch, SP paint is SP paint. That being said, I kicked myself in the butt for a while after UP 1983 came through on an intermodal train with a patched SP second out.

I know the feeling. I've been to Kingman Az a couple of times in recent months and not only missed a S.P. unit while eating at Mr D'z but an unpatched Santa Fe Warbonnet (Dash 9?)
I was sitting across the street eating and saw both units going east bound out of Kingman Canyon on different days, but I couldn't get the camera out in time, or with my greasy little fingers. !*roll-laugh*!
