Can't be Tehachapi, it is said that the route will be modern-day and will feature both passenger and freight, no passenger services over Tehachapi

Marc gave a another clue towards the end of the thread posted on the 3DTrains forum/announcement:

The California Zephyr was diverted on this route only once. Recollection of that event, was Donnor's Pass, owned by the Southern Pacific at the time (now owned by UP), as the CZ main competitor at the time was the UP City of San Francisco.

The CZ was diverted IMHO due to an derailment caused by washed out bridges and/or track bed foundation from the result of warmer than usual weather creating quicker snow pack melt, allowing the track base to weaken on the Feather River Canyon subdivision of the Western Pacific RR.

Yeah, but only UP runs over Donner and Marc said that on his route there are two Class-1s together. !*don-know!*

Yea, even back in the Southern Pacific days it was only one railroad.. Southern Pacific. And the only passenger train was SP's section of the "City of San Francisco," which was jointly operated by C&NW, SP, and UP (until Amtrak re-routed the Zephyr onto Donner). So confuzzled. *!lol!*

Could it be the Union Pacific's Overland route?

Considering that the California Zephyr has been routed over Donner Pass ever since Amtrak reinstated it, it would hardly be considered a one-off occurence...

Here's a few more...

  • It's not Canadian
  • It's not modern (still used today, however)
  • It's not UP
*!lol!*
Cheers!

So I think it's part of the Super Chief route.
ATSF and most likely SP.

That depends though, if "it is not UP" also includes the roads now merged into UP... If that is the case I guess it'll have to be something (north)eastern...

He might keep the secret till the day before release. And we're going crazy all together because we want to know.
A good marketing concept Marc. :D
