Hesitant to open my wallet after the last few releases. I think I'll wait to hear some reviews first, but hopefully this one will be a home run..

Don't get me wrong Buzz, it is a lovely looking loco. It just kills me when there are obvious flaws such as the ones on recent releases. I don't mind if they reuse sounds because those are easily changed, but when there are problems that I personally can't fix I'd rather wait and get them on sale and hope they fix the problem some day !*cheers*!

I've been poking around here since 2009 and long ago realized that when it comes to rolling stock simmers fall into two basic categories. The first category, to which I belong, sees rolling stock as a means to an end, that being simulated train driving. The second group sees rolling stock more as a hobby in and of itself, to be repainted, modified, etc. I'm not saying that some folks don't straddle both camps, but my point is that we should respect each other more. From now on, for example, I will refrain from commenting, especially negatively or scornfully or sarcastically, about the tinkerers (and I don't mean that word negatively: I tinker with a lot of things -- just not rolling stock).

!*cheers*!

Now that it's out no one has anything good or bad to say about it.

Picking up Buzz's down-thrown gauntlet, I'll declare that I very much like this engine which, as I've noted elsewhere, comes with three decent switching scenarios that, albeit of the career variety that I often avoid, can be driven calmly -- at a switching pace, that is -- without losing points (not that I care, but a lot of folks seem to). I've yet to really understand this loco's 7 headlight states. The User's Manual unhelpfully tells me that, "Repeatedly pressing [H] will cycle through headlight states", without identifying what those states might be -- a firm application of the KISS rule might have helped here. The beast also boasts Ditch (directional), Gauge, Cab, and Platform lights in its toy box.

Not knowing nearly enough about such matters, I will nevertheless boldly ask where this CSX switcher might be credibly placed in scenarios beyond the New York - New Haven route. Wikipedia lists a number of Genset liveries and I'm hoping that re-painters will offer us some of them.

First let me say when anyone gets the headlight thing figured out please post. Second the present repaints work on Tory's route just fine. What other liveries have you seen? Pictures appreciated.

I'm enjoying this one too. Seems generally well done, and i can easily replace the bell with an e-bell.

Not sure if it's prototypical or not, but i've been using them on the miami route.

Which route is troy's route?

Since the Miami Route is CSX it would be totally appropriate whether there are any of them down there I will leave to the rivet counters. As far as Troy's route, it's Tory's route and that would be the excellent C&O Allegheny route.

The headlights (front and rear) each have three levels of brightness and, yes, the differences are clearly visible, but only on the ground and other objects. The lamp itself always looks the same to my eyes. As I already noted, pressing "H" or "Shift" + "H" cycles through these, beginning with front-dim. There are also rotating knobs in the cab that work, but it isn't easy to access them with the mouse.
