Out of Video memory crash

Unread postby CPRailfan34 » Sat Mar 07, 2015 9:52 pm

I just tried going into the NERW PA Scenario known as Bullnose to Chandler scenario and it glitched out the first time where i went to couple to the car i had previously uncoupled and it collided glitching through the coupler, then I chose to restart the scenario and it crashed saying out of Video memory, I clicked ok then the simulator closed out on me. Does anyone know why this happens?

Whats your computer specs, graphics card how much memory does it have, OS 32bit or 64bit. Your question is like saying my car won't start anyone know why. :D

My video card is AMD 64bit with NVidia driver 1.9, running window Vista 32 bit, it runs the simulator fine but I have to have it at its lowest setting do have little to no lag. My computer is a laptop HP G60 with a Scorpio Blue hard drive 5GB. Like I said it runs the simulTor but in the lowest settings. I actually don't know the memory of my graphics card. Thanks for the reply. My computer is nearly ten years old with a 6 yr old hard hrive as I have replaced it from an accident.

I'd say you answered your own question. 10 year old laptop says it all.

And I would say running a CPU well below the recommended specs.

System Requirements for TS2015
MINIMUM:
OS:Windows® Vista / 7 / 8
Processor:Processor: 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo (3.2 GHz Core 2 Duo recommended), AMD Athlon MP (multiprocessor variant or comparable processors)
Memory:2 GB RAM
Graphics:512 MB with Pixel Shader 3.0 (AGP PCIe only)
DirectX®:9.0c
Hard Drive:6 GB HD space
Sound:Direct X 9.0c compatible
Other Requirements:Broadband Internet connection
Additional:Quicktime Player is required for playing the videos
Intel i5-10600K CPU, Asus TUF GAMING Z490-Plus (Wi-Fi) MB, Graphics Asus RTX 3060 TI 8GB OC TUF gaming card Windows 11 Home 64 bit, 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 ram, Viewsonic VX2728 LED 1080P FHD Monitor, Samsung 1TB SSD + other conventional drives, Corsair 750W PSU.

Here are my computer's specs as follows:

Model: HP G60 Pavilion

Processor: AMD Turion Dual-Core RM-70 2.00 GHz

memory/RAM: 3.00 GB

OS: windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Graphics Card: GeForce 8200M G

Graphics driver: 310.90.

Display resolution: 1366 X 768 60Hz

Hard drive space is 300gB with 127GB free

Hopefully this will satisfy the computer geeks out there lol

My computer may be almost 6yrs old but it still works like a champ!

The issue is with the 3 gig ram. With all the processes laptops usually have running in the background + railworks added on top of that, it's going to max out and that's why you get the CTD.

Correction my computer is only about five or six years old and my computer has only used up 0.25Gb of the total memory leaving me with 2.75 GB available. What if I get an external drive for backing my computer up and speeding it up with say a terabyte drive? Would that increase the performance? CTD? Sorry idk what that means I may know alot about computers and stuff but I'm not a total geek. Lol

CTD = Crash To Desktop

Your hard drive is not memory it is storage space. Your 3 gig of RAM is barely enough to run windows which takes about 1.5 gig of RAM. The last 3 versions of Railworks increased graphics abilities all around. The NERW route of mine was made for RW2, it looks way nicer in TS2015 because of the added graphics. A lot of the NERW is also scenery intense. So that may be why your running out of video memory. And I am not a computor geek I am a computor nerd *!lol!*

And also your onboard graphics well also be using some of that 3gb ram so take a bit more off the 3gb allowing you to run TS2015. Basic laptops are not designed to run games. You can buy gaming laptops at a price though.

I am thinking of getting a more powerful gaming laptop so I can run more programs like the Adobe Creative suite. But what computer would be best recommended for that and Railworks at full quality? Ik that the Abobe creative suite can be very intensive on the CPU that's why I'm asking. Plus I was thinking of getting into repainting railcars and engines but my computer wouldn't be able to handle that. But first things first I need to save up for something powerful enough to run the simulator with ease and tons of memory. I can still run the simulator with little to no hippups so I'm not worried. Just running it with the lowest settings till I can afford to get a better computer. I was thinking along the lines of Alienware what do you think? !*don-know!*

Just got a major FPS boost! I checked the Global settings in my Nvidia control panel and it was set to multiple display performance not single display performance and that was probably sapping my GPU power. It's working way faster now that I set it to single display and it made a world's difference. Thanks for the help I now know I am using a bit of an underpowered laptop, but it works fine for me. Did I mention I fixed it once? Yeah I messed up the hard drive because my laptop took a hit. I bought a new drive with a windows vista kit for $100 and had the drivers installed for $120. That's way better than the $800 they were predicting to get it fixed.

Out of curiosity... what kinds of frame rates are you getting at what settings? Your GPU was released in 2008.

Just to put into perspective how far we've come in 6 years of mobile GPUs, my GTX 850M is 1,155 GFLOPS while your 8200M G mGPU is 19 GFLOPS! !*hp*!

Lowest settings at little to no lag. 60fps at highest and probably 56fps at lowest. But I can't go for more than one scenario without the game crashing. It's time I got a new computer. Unfortunately I cannot afford one atm but it works for now. GFLOPS again srry for my stupidity but idk what that stands for. I may be a nerd but even I don't know everything about computers. I wouldn't mind getting a computer that can run the sim at highest settings without breaking a sweat. That be cool. If I had a computer that can do that I'd totally be making some repaints as well. But what am I kidding myself? I can't afford anything remotely powerful now.

FLOPS stands for FLoating-point Operations Per Second.... or in short singular form, FLOP means FLoating-point OPeration. It is a raw performance measure of floating-point math calculations performed per second. Giga stands for a billion... so your GPU can do 19 billion floating-point math calculations per second (GFLOPS). My GPU does 1,155 billion floating-point math calculations per second.....or put another way ... 1.155 TFLOPS.... Tera (stands for trillion) floating-point math calculations per second.

GPUs offer much better FLOPS performance than CPUs.

It's a number to compare..... in this particular case...a GPU's raw processing power. But when comparing actual graphics performance, we compare things like pixel fill rates and texture fill rates..to name a few. They take other things into account like memory clock speeds and bandwidth performance.

When you do decide to get a new computer, give us a budget and we can suggest the best bang for the buck rigs for you. *!greengrin!*
