The only sound files that I know of that are used in game is for ambient sounds. If you use stereo files for engines, the sound will never decay in volume.

It installs new bin files into the engine packs, and all the sounds into the MLWAudio directory under 'Assets'.

Ok. So, say I want to alias an engine to that file. How would I go about doing it?

I managed to copy the .bin files for the cab instrument and engine sounds to the Kuju, NYNH CSX, and old NS High Nose SD40-2s. Place them into the same directories as the other engines, and make backups when necessary. The new track joint and rolling sounds won't be heard. Copy any horn proxyxml from 16-645E3.ap and then rename the horn sound paths to what you want (ex. K3LA_loop.dav to horn_loop.wav). Repeat that step five times for the other files (cab start, loop, end; exterior start and end.

I hate to bump....but i notice there is a problem with the BN proxy. The horn start cannot be heard unless the HUD horn button is used. The horn loop file overlaps the start sound.

So, I just tried to get the NYNH CSX SD40-2 to sound like this sound pack. However, I have run into a problem. The CSX SD40-2's now don't have any sound besides the horn. I am at a complete loss as to what to do from here, besides reverting back to the default sounds. I have looked thoroughly for an instruction read me in the MLW audio, as the web site did say that it would have instructions. However, not a single file for instructions. So, would somebody please walk me through it. Step by step, because this is getting the better of me. And my patience for checking to see if it worked is wearing awfully thin!

I have applied all of these sounds to the NYNH SD40-2, except the bogie and flange noises. I used the low idle and I added the CSX K5LA from b737lvr's horn pack by copying the horn proxy into the respective folder. I may try to write up a tutorial how to do it on here by Friday.

Alright everyone, I have had quite a bit of time off for work, so I've been working on a number of improvements to the sound pack including:
*Prototype Matching of including spitters. This would exclude BN, BNSF, NS and a couple other prototypes that do not use active spitter valves, but just use the unloader actuated dump valves.
*Updated Air compressor sounds that pump at a speed matching that of the prime mover, as EMD's are shaft driven.
*Changed the interactions of the audio for multiple engine sets to lessen blending effect, interior sounds are now exclusive to the locomotive you occupy.
*Distance related sounds such as different cooling fan/classic EMD drum roll have been changed to better reflect the difference in sound dynamics in relation to position.
*Air brake sounds changed for specific locomotives that have prototype braking *I.E. DRGW SD40T-2
*Dynamic brake sounds trigger rev to higher RPM depending on railroad specific specifications. Example, BN locomotives will rev when Dynamic Braking control exceeds DB6 or so.
*Dynamic brake sounds improved behavior, better reflection of Amperage of effort acting as current across the grids to control fan speed.
*Radiator Cooling fan sounds improved behavior to come on individually Fan0,Fan1,Fan2 depending on how long the engine has been under duress.
*Flange Squeal, axle thump, track groan improved, audio changed for axle thump across frogs and joint. Very very small percent of a chance that your lead engine has been run by a dummy in the past and has a flatspot on one of the wheelsets from sliding them. (It happens!)
*Interior wheel slip sounds (everything rattling under high load, low speed situations in the cab) added. Does not correspond directly with in game wheelslip which does not behave correctly by any means except on the FEF-3.
*Exterior wheel slip sounds added for when the game actually does let you slip.
*Improved horn behavior with certain models. I've had to change the .bins of locomotives to get this to work correctly, as some have the toggle controls set to be far too rapid to have a proper horn on, horn off transition.
*Mixing improved to better balance out loudness between different sounds. Engine sounds toned down a bit, the Horn remains the same, bell is quiet to dern near silent more then 5 cars away with slight reverb added when at greater distances rather than the direct *ding* of the clapper hitting. Bogie and truck sounds have been greatly reduced I'm sure to the praise of many.
*traction motor sounds reworked to have the more groany sound to them as in reality, and have a blower sound when under high duress.
*added an EMD bronze bell for the hell of it

I've also added support to the following DLC:
UP 'Independence Locomotive' SD40-2 with appropriate horn and bell to match prototype.
CSXT NYNH SD40-2 with appropriate horn and bell matching prototype majority.
NS High Hood, both past and updated.
DRGW SD40T-2, Soldier Summit ** Updated Brake sounds applied to reflect Reduction, Release, Independent sets, Release, and Actuation.

If there are any DLC I have missed out on, please let me know and I'll be sure to include them in the update. If there's any features you'd like to see me add, let me know.

If there is a freeware skin you'd like me to make a xml for, I will gladly include them separately on our website, but I will not include other peoples sound unless it's personally yours.

Also do remember that for people who currently own the set this update is FREE

Thanks for this, waiting for news to update the Kuju SD40-2, Portland Terminal SD40s and GP40. When TS2016 comes out will you add a new bin file for the SH SD40-2 so that it is up to TS2016 standards when it comes out?? Fan Railer has a high quality bin file for the SS SD40T-2 that can be used well.

I am sure you went through another recording session with the SD40s.

Kuju, and PT are included as well. I could possibly change the bin for the Sherman Hill once they re-release it, assuming they bother repackaging it into the DTG directory and actually tweak anything instead of being the typical approach. I saw that he has updated the Soldier Summit files, and that is what I am working with, considering I don't actually own the DLC lol.

I didn't do any new recording session, as it wasn't needed. This is just a rework of existing files, and implementation of a few recordings I've taken on deadhead trips.
