GP40-2's working in multiple.

Unread postby callum112233 » Tue Sep 30, 2014 11:41 am

Yesterday, I bought this unit on a whim as I was looking for an American loco with 'advanced' features. (Please do tell me of any more advanced locos on the market if there are any)

My question is:

If working in multiple, say I have 4 units on the front of the train. Do I have to start each unit up independently?

Thanks.
Callum.

Reppo's GP-20 has an advanced start-up sequence and some other nice detailing. For Steam Engines - AT&N Consolidation and the upcoming FEF by Smokebox are incredibly detailed.

You do not.

My turn. I am curious are people wanting this feature? I could code it in but I have other new features I am working on at the moment.

I say no to that.

I think manually starting one loco is cool. Manually starting 4 sounds like time I'd rather be putting miles on the consist. Just my $0.02

+1

Also, Reppo's Baldwin Centipede (DLC on Steam) has advanced controls and startup sequence.

I'd suggest to enable it.
Now, when I switch to the cab of the other loco, engine dies, and I need to start everything over.
This is not realistic.

Also, there is no possibility to run with reduced power. that's interesting feature for scenarios.
with GP20 I can pull the train with 4 locos, one of them is cold. So I can start this extra engine, only when additional power is required, or shut down particular loco in case of engine fault.

Start first loco with full procedure, and start the rest with "Z" key - that's what would I do if I feel lazy

but it should be independent also ("Z" key affects only one loco, which cab you currently in)

I love the VRC GP40, but if I could decide on one change, it would be this one thing. I actually like starting all the locomotives manually. I also recognize that others might not, so if it's possible to offer both (similar to the Reppo scheme, where there's advanced and standard coding), I'd count that as a selling point. I'm aware that that's a "cake-and-eat-it-too" approach.

It's not a showstopper for me if it gets left as-is. This is a tremendous addition to the hobby.
