The flashing circuit is directional based on which way the reverser is placed.

He turned in his seat and looked Backwards. Pain to do on the BNSF Dash 9's we have. Dad ran a Empty Grain train with a BNSF Dash 9 LHF from Auburn Wa to Ellensburg Wa

I saw a light engine csx dash9 or gevo (couldn't tell) going long hood lead forwared going at least 50 mph.

No, not on our units. There is a two position switch on the control stand for the majority of the units. Some of the EMD units have the selector switch by the isolation switch, one position is for short hood ditch lights, the other position for long hood ditch lights. Only a few of the older GP38-2's, GP40-2's and SD40-2's are controlled by the reverser. Naturally a pressure switch on the air horn air line starts the 30 second flash timer on the ditch light controller box. On most of the newer units there is even a pulse button on the control stand if you want to flash the ditch lights without blowing the horn.
