Ideas needed

Discussion about RailWorks scenario creation.

Ideas needed

Unread postby Mark » Thu Feb 17, 2011 10:23 pm

Hey guys, I was considering doing scenarios for the US routes in RW. The problem is I only have the default routes, no extra assets downloaded , can anyone direct me to more American Routes?

In the meantime, what kind of things are regular with the American routes? I generally don't use these as I am more a fan of the HST/Local Service scenarios for routes such as Oxford-Paddington , WCML, Newcastle-York and the Newcastle-York Modern as I feel there is more interaction on these routes.
I attempted one scenario in my early days of Railworks ont eh Castlerock Railroad( I am sure that was the route) go from one spur to the other spur , full length of the track, a 2 hour scenario that did not test my concentration levels until well over an hour into it. I get bored easily.

Unfortunately I have not figured out the connect up to wagons trigger yet in creating scenarios so if I was to make any , the rakes would be pre determined and loaded ready for the off.

So a couple of things would help me out here,
1. What is the general running state of the CRR ? Left hand or right hand side track for example ( as I said it wa my early days, I forget what side Railworks had me running)
2. Is there an option for doing passenger scenarios that will not take 2 hours like the freight scenario I done?
3.Would you like to see iregular trains on the route, example being the amazing Class 170 Turbostar (available on Steam if you do not have it already) that is seen on many of the Uk railways these days, UK HST ( not knowing the route, I do not know if this would work properly as I don't know how the track layout is, how tight are corners, will the train be able to go full speed at points or will it be middle of the power working?)
4. Steam activities ( I am not a fan of these trains as I can not get them to work *!embar*! no matter how much reading I do I just cant get it to move . oh well ) will these scenarios work on this line , are there refil points for water and coal ?
5 Uk /German defualt freight stock . I know the Uk/German trains are able to travel quicker and pick up speed quicker than the US loco , but depends on the load it is pulling I suppose. The UK Deisels are a favourite of mine, As I remember seeing these locos go past my house when I was a kid ( good times ) I always like to drive these on the sim as often as possible.

So over to you guys, If you want me to create scenarios then give me ideas If you feel better to PM me an idea then feel free to do so . I am here on a daily basis checking things out and I appreciate the hard work other people have done for the RW community and felt it was time I returned the favour ( already done scenarios for a UK payware route and I am starting slowly on other routes as you read this ).
I have other scenarios on the go, but not all will be released for the wider community as I want to add as much as possible to make it more enjoyable without jeapordising the framerates and details with stutter. As creation can be saved and returned to I have no problems with starting numerous scenarios.

So your turn. Let's see the suggestions of what you would like to see !*cheers*!

All the best

Mark

PS I will start using my own site to upload scenarios aswell as here and will have information about it as my list grows ( no point adding 3 creations and releasing a website ).
My scenarios are short, but they leave plenty of room for scope. Time to stretch to other routes I think

1. the side of the track does not really matter because it changes all the time!

2. yes there are options to do passenger scenarios on the CRR because there are 3 stations.

3. i don't think the 170 turbostar can handle the corrners but irregular stuff is basicaly other railroads from north america (CRR is D&RGW or UP).

4. steam can be done but there are no fuel points on the route but the route is really to small to run out if you are doing a scenario that only takes around 1-2 hours.

5. actually US rolling stock is preffered for a US route! the default can be good if you know how to make interesting mixed consists with the limited default rolling stock, don't forget that there are many freeware repaints avalable for US stuff.

There's a few in the File Library here at RWA. Just click on the 'Routes' link at the top of the forum.

Just downlaoded a couple of routes, and have hit a block . For some reason I forgot how to add the routes and assets.

Is there an .exe file for routes that are on this site or do I just have to move the folders into my railworks install folder after unzipping them ??

If the download contains a .rpk or .rwp file, then use the package manager, if the download contains a .exe file, run that.

Hi guys , sorry about my lack of posting, Unfortunately we had a serious problem with a lightning storm a couple weeks back and it fried my g/f's commputer, so I do not have full access to my laptop just now to create the scenario's until we get hers fixed.

I am working on them any opportunity I have but being with very little access time I can only do so much. What would usually take me 1-2 days to rattle up is now verging on a week with very little input ( i am disappointed ) .

As soon as we get the main PC up and running again I will have full control over my laptop and be able to get back to the scenario creations !*brav*! !*YAAA*!

I will use this thread here to keep you updated and maybe post some screenshots ( due to being on low end spec laptop I have to have settings all set to low for it to run so picture quality won't be the best unfortunately )

So for all interested parties again I apologise but do watch this space

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark! If you want to learn more about actual NA rr operations, try listening to live chatter at railroadradio.net I've learned a lot about clearances and actual trian operation. Good listening!

Generally the traffic runs on the right side like in Europe, but it can also change.
