South Africa is pretty, but I question the popularity of a SA route, unless of course they are planning GMAM's around Pietermaritzburg or Montagu Pass, 25 C & NC on the Kimberly De Aar. Even the 24's on the old George Knysna line, while nice to travel on, it is just a single line working - its all pie in the sky because it just aint happening! They did an average job on HSC, even after sending a modeller to the States to the museum in Strasburg and all there was to see. Personally I think they missed a golden opportunity with that one, I cant see a decent foreign route outside their core market happening, and certainly not steam *!sad!*

I don't really know why Dovetail even chose to do a South African route.... Wouldn't it be smarter to do a route from another European country such as France or Italy, or an Asian route such as in Japan? Why not pick a country that is known for it's trains? !*don-know!*

That's a giant leap John to assume anything at this point.

Gotta love it, the location of the route let alone its details have not even been announced and the complaining begins ....

Hard to define 'not popular', the SAR routes on Train-Sim have reasonable D/L figures,( if it is SA ) but I'd agree that SA without a 25, GMAM or the Devil would be a disappointment.

ReefSteamers 'Lyndie Lou' gets hot regularly and provides easy access for reference, which would be great if they do have a GMAM in the works...I'd guess they would want to their own, but, freelance wise, 1 UK modeler did have a Garrett in WIP (though I've not seen Michael post in public for ages :-( ) and there's a fine selection of Hi-Res diesel and steam models from an SA resident that might be available.

They did use the word "Exciting" on their FB page, so I hope that it's 'Mainline' they're thinking of and not the Sandstone Estates Narrow Gauge >> it's a great place to visit and ride, but not "Exciting" in a train game,,imho.

Big job to do well,,trust me :D *!!wink!!* >> Tōhoku Shinkansen, ( Tokyo to Shin Aomori ) needs 3 sections for the complete ride. The Sanyo, Tokyo to Fukuoka, needs more than 3 :D

If it is South Africa, it could be the Gautrain they built for the World Cup, that might be an interesting line to drive.

Maybe the folks at DTG watched this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xrH6cuoXn4

Lots of scenarios to be had! Classic rolling stock and motive power! Beautiful scenery, lots of neat assets including new models for buildings and pedestrians/ passengers. !!*ok*!! !*salute*!

Seriously, I'd love a South African route. US and Brit stuff growing old. Euro stuff is a hunt for assets. (I'll not bet my 12 year old bottle of Dewars Special on it tho) !*cheers*!

I'd like to see some railway in exotic parts of the world
Europe and North America pretty much exploited, and most routes are of the same character.

India, China, Vietnam, South America, Africa, whatever.
Imagine some steam or small diesel loco crawling through dense tropical forest, small villages around, etc

ex: Qinghai–Tibet Railway
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qinghai%E2 ... et_Railway

Highest railway line in the world, it's highest point is 5,072 m (16,640 feet) above sea level.
Due to it's elevation, locomotive crews and passengers have oxygen supply - pretty extreme, isnt?

My apologies if it seems like I am complaining.... It's just that when I think of railroads the world I don't usually think of South Africa. Sorry for making strong guesses without enough evidence of what's to come... !!**sorry**!! !!det!!

If the route however in South Africa, I will likely buy this route for the scenery.

Indeed ... It rather reminds me of a particular chorus from one of Aristopahnes' comedies ... !*cheers*!

Well, their newest clue strongly hints at a Tennessee route.
