New release of SD70ACe's

some things have changed on them such as the position of the headlights and the grills on vents. the Mack is a whole different model and the CN version of the SD70-M has the most changes to it.

Did not notice it was an SD70M. Thanks. I was hoping they had improved on the sound quality of some things. The SD70M is a completely different model than the ACe.

Hi, I think he meant SD70M-2. There is no SD70M available yet.

What sounds should have been changed? You said this on another forum and when asked there all you came up with was one item. The horn. You are acting as if the soundset between the variants is completely different.

Bill differnt railroads uses differnt horns.. Like BNSF and NS on these models the horns should have been differnt. Also on the BNSF Model the bell should have been a Digital Bell or E Bell.

You may need to go back and read my post again. On that particular post I asked not one question about the horn. I asked, just as the title says, the SD70ACe cab interior is way too loud at idle. All you can hear is turbo over run in idle all the way through the 2nd notch. The turbo should not be that loud. The horn you refer to is a conversation on another post about favorite horns. This post was an attempt to try and find out if the new SD70M, which I accidentally called an SD70ACe, had corrected the problem. If you will go back and read my post, no one replied..........

I just had to comment on this question because I am an "audio" person. My sense of hearing is perhaps my most acute one. Most of you guys are visually oriented (that's nature). This may shock some of the most diehard loco fans but I could care less where the grills are located on these things.... I don't spend time looking at them that close. But the SOUNDS they make are VERY important to me. Most (but not all!) of the default sounds from RSC irritate my ears and I seldom even turn my volume up beyond a tiny noise from the speakers. But when I really get in the mood to drive, I plug in my stereo system so I can feel the floor rumble! I turn it up so the horn and the bell is so loud it hurts your eardrum.... just like the real thing. The last time I did this, I chose the Challenger with the alternate soundpak that ?someone? (sorry, I'm bad with names) here in the USA made. WOW, that was fun. I guess living with these sounds all my life has made me very discerning about the realism of them.

Also, I have wanted to bring this up before.... these sound tracks can sound very different on different computers. I mean, not only is the tone different, I mean some soundcards are better than others. My current system sounds WAYYYY better than did the previous one which I thought had sounded good enough. I didn't know I was missing anything. When I got onto this new one, I was astounded to hear sounds, nuances and harmonics that the older system had never brought out. In other words, previously, I didn't REALLY know what these sound tracks sounded like. I even find the RSC ones to contain sounds that I never heard before and I like them a little better now. My point is, if you're going to judge the sound tracks, be sure you have first given them all the technology they need to bring out their full potential. That's why audiophiles buy expensive gear.

I'll run along now, but I just wanted to pop in and point out that, yes, to some of us, the audio might be the most important thing of all. Hmmmm.... now I'm thinking about "plugging in" to see what these new SD's really sound like.

p.s. If you haven't tried RW on a 200 watt stereo with subwoofer, I highly recommend giving it a try.

Nice post Tori, I agree. Which was where I was going. Sound is subjective. An "awesome" horn to one person may be "the worst horn ever" to another. Same goes for the bell. Which is why I don't get the repeated "they didn't change any of the audio" comments vaguely directed at RSC. The SD70 soundset is pretty solid imo, and got very little no major complaints. Why should they "change" what isn't technically broken?

I run my PC through either my nice 5.1 speaker setup with upscaled simulated surround turned on or full total butt kicking put on my surround sound headphones (the big studio kind that fully cup your entire ear).

Well i am just saying the real ones have them so why dont we have them on here. For some people realism is a plus like for me. I mean i can go on and on about what they need to change to make if perfect like the real thing but im not going to go there. I mean if you bought a car woulnt you want it to have everything like you seen. Anyways i will still try to help the RSC team becuse i have a lot of info on locomotives from cab shots to sounds even locomotive drawings.

Only problem with headphones is they don't make the ground shake!

Are the bell sounds not "modify-able"?
