Just installed the new version from the workshop. Wow, the MC&SA sure has grown up since the '20s! A lot more track-side vegetation and an underpass.
Like Pam said, it looks great. Still has those steep grades here and there to keep you on your toes!

Michael, thanks for going to the effort of updating the route and putting it in the workshop. !*cheers*!

Many thanks both to Michael for putting this great route on the Workshop and to BNOV2 for posting about its existence here (and my humble appreciation for his quoting me in his signature block).

I'll be posting a route diagram for the original non-Workshop Modern and 1920's versions for upload this afternoon. This will be in the same format as the one I did for the Montour route.

I don't have the Stevens Pass route yet. As soon as I do I'll update to include the changes with the Workshop version.

I've downloaded the route from Steam Workshop, but only a Quick Drive scenario is available. Surely it's possible to write Standard scenarios for a Workshop route, but how?

There's a few workshop scenarios - but you have to do a weird search for them. In short, because Stevens Pass assets were used, you can find scenarios for the MC&SA mixed in there.

MC&SA WS appears to be a very popular Route. Half a dozen scenarios in Workshop as of today since GreatNortherner uploaded the route last week. I do a word search on "Moscow" or "Camden" on the WS screen "Search Train Simulator 2014" search field to find the scenarios and they pop right up.

Thanks for the links and searching suggestions, but what I actually asked is how to go about writing my own scenarios for this Workshop-based route, which does not show up in the editor's route list.

Edit: Before someone breaks in to complain about couplers, etc., I'll just answer my own question.

Apparently, a Steam Workshop route becomes available for scenario creation once one downloaded scenario has been opened and run. With this accomplished, the route appears in the regular routes lists and the editor recognizes it as eligible for scenario writing and editing.

My thanks to Michael for making this route available again, and for his generosity in making it a free, Steam Workshop offering. Driving his introductory scenario reminded me how much I used to enjoy driving this route and writing scenarios for it. In some ways, the relatively short run between Moscow and Camden, with its many gradient changes and consequent speed limit adjustments is more challenging (and much less fatiguing) than the long runs necessitated by such routes as Marias Pass, Canadian Mountain Passes, and Donner Pass. For those who enjoy driving through good scenery, there's just enough of that here, as well. The yard areas, though quite small, also offer their own built-in driving difficulties, due to the limited number of sidings available and, again, the gradients.

I see many hours of pleasant scenario writing ahead of me . . .

I've had the original versions of this route for a while now, and have enjoyed them a lot. This new updated release is really great. More scenarios all the time it seems, and thanks to both for the search tips. The Workshop can be a maze at times to find stuff.

I'm especially looking forward to running Tom's upcoming scenarios for this route. If he's as good at creating scenarios as he is with being rude and insulting to Forum members here, they should be darn good scenarios. !*salute*!

Neat! Thanks for posting that link. Now we all know who the mysterious "Elphaba" is. His scenarios have to be some of the best I have run. Just downloaded this one. Love the old "Rock" livery. !*brav*!

This gives me the urge to write scenarios for the MC&SA using the RS11, the GP20 and the GE 44-tonner.

He is very good at writing interesting scenarios, especially for this route, but I find his other scenarios for mainline running lack the "big train" appeal that north American routes are known for; 30-50 car trains for every train and calling it heavy isn't quite a challenge. Sorry for going off topic a bit, time to get back to the route!
