Happy days...freight cars that SOUND like freight cars!

I can not believe the lack of hoopla regarding Walter Jaeschke's new sound pack for our freight cars, I only know about it because I noticed ATSF3814's post about the video he made showing them off in Screen Shots!

No more tame little clickety clack sounds from your freight cars as they move, when I heard them my jaw dropped, it was like standing trackside in real life, screeching metal, pounding wheels, all the sounds you'd expect to hear but haven't...until now. This adds a whole new dimension to RW, the realism factor just went up several orders of magnitude. You can even select the volume level of the sounds to suit your preference as a bonus !!*ok*!!

Get thee hence right away to the RWA ~ Miscellaneous Files ~ section and grab these. If you like railroading (duh, no-brainer) you'd be crazy not too.

Walter, you're a hero...I'm buyin' you the first beer, thank you so much!

Y'all still here reading? Go...vamoose...SCRAM and get 'em!

You should check out the scrolling news ticker at the top of the forum a little more often. *!!wink!!*

I generally do, but checking the web page to see the subject of the announcements leads to trawling the scenarios, which always makes me want to go toy shopping for the ingredients I don't have yet and I'm trying to cut down !**duh*!!

Ok I need a lil help on how to install these Sounds,So all I do is just copy the sound files into here.Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Audio\RailVehicles\Wagons.That is all I do.If not then I need a lil bit more info on that.

First: Just copy all those soundfiles which come with the pack into the "Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Audio\RailVehicles\Wagons" folder.

Second: Go into the "Volume Changes" folder which comes with the pack. Now copy the content of "Step 1" (recommended as most realistic) also into the "...\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Audio\RailVehicles\Wagons" folder. It should now ask you wether you want to copy and overwrite the existing file with those. Copy and overwrite and you're done.

Notice: If you want these sounds also to work with the wagons coming with the SD40 WideNose, HighNose and Dash9 (and additional thir party) dlc, you'll have to browse their separate folders: "...\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\RSC\..."
There you'll have to browse the audio folder, after that choose the "...\RailVehicles\Freight\..." folder and do the procedure described above again.
Attention: maybe you must rename the "Wagon Freight.proxyxml" file to Wagon.proxyxml" before copying so that they'll overwrite the default files.
(only in additional content, not the wagons in the "...\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Audio\RailVehicles\Wagons" folder). !*salute*!

Bravo Walter!! !*brav*! This was one of the "missing links" in RailWorks. MSTS crashed the sound barrier a long time ago and developers like Gaetan Belanger and his associates created some almost unbelievable reproductions for the sim.

This is a great step forward--adding substance to the eye candy. !!*ok*!! The power of the worldwide community is affirmed once again!!

The more I play with the New And Improved RW, the more impressed I am. Apart from the general ambience the sound pack adds, which is acres better than the unmodified sounds, I find you can really fine tune your movements by listening...unless I'm imagining something, the sounds are triggered by all kinds of different circumstances. You get a proper shriek when brakes are applied, a squeal when you move from a straight to a curved rail, and another when a car passes over the frog of a turnout, for example.

I'm running Michael Stephan's Quarry Run scenario for his Industrial Interactive Route again, and as good as it was the first time, it's just fantastic now. After assembling your train of empty gondolas you have to take it up to the local gravel quarry, swap ends with the caboose, then fill each car with gravel to complete the task. The last part of the journey to the quarry takes you up a 1.7% grade, flattening out after entering the loading track.

The neatest thing here is you can gauge your movements by the sound now, whether adjusting your speed as you let the loco/cars coast down the grade while moving them, positioning them under the gravel loader, or applying the brakes as you coast downhill on the return leg. Just amazing.

This addition has improved the playability (and replayability) of freight scenarios many times over. Once you try Walter's sound pack, you'll never want to play stock RW again!

So basically u can add this sound mod to all the rolling stock in the game, even the rolling stock that comes with the original game?

Yes you can add it to all rolling stock in the game. An instruction can be found in the readme or in my post above here in this thread. !*salute*!

micael your post above looks like you experimented a bit with the files, the only thing one need to copy into a different wagon folder is the .proxyxml file right? All the sound files stay in place in RailSimUS\Wagons\ and are referenced from the xmls correct? So it does work with virtually any rolling stock if you place the new files in the appropriate folder?

You just need to search for the audio folder of the wagon. (some 3rd party use the default sounds so they might not have their own audiofile)
You must copy the proxyxml file into the folder. Maybe you'll have to rename it so that it can overwrite the default one. You also must copy all the soundfiles from the pack into the audio folder. The default ones can stay in place.
