Yes this must be it and I'm doing a clean install as we speak. Thanks

The Southern Rails (formerly known as the Atlanta North District) route, C39-8, and GP40-2 all work with the new UI. Only issue I see is that Test Trak is no longer listed as a runable route. It is still in my Contents folder, just not available in any of the filters. Oh well, when I want to fark something up, I'll just have to experiment on the never-used English routes.

As far as this update goes, to me it is change for change's sake. I liked the look and feel of TS2013 much better than what we got today. The TS2014 UI is to reminiscent of the gosh-forsaken Windows 8 live-tiles. Once again, I am wishing that RSC had skipped the improvement to the candy wrapper and had added a little more sweetness to the skittle.

Still can not run any 3rd party routes. They show on the menue but no scenarios will run. Restored missing Kuju files. Also the missing RSDL files. The 'clear cache' function still does not work. Goes to steam window and states that RW exe is already running. Verified files 3 times. Interesting that all 3 times it showes 111 file need to be aquired. The last time the downlod did not start as the message was that the update ( D/L files) was suspended.

I figured out how to turn the hideous background music off in the settings. I really miss the ambient railroad yard sounds that played in the background while waiting for a scenario to load in TS2013.

But I can't figure out how to shut off the darn TS2014 advertising movie at the startup of TS2014. I know it is a "distraction element" to watch while awaiting the Core files load, but after you watch it one or two or more times, it gets very tiring. On top of that it has a very loud and noisy music track.

So far all of my collection of Freeware and 3rd-Party Payware scenarios that I have tried to run are throwing missing track marker errors or missing assets errors.

I just ran one of my favourite routes, jetgriff's "Settle Carlisle", through RW_Tools after the TS2014 update.

The route used the female_standing_na_02.bin asset from the Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\scenery\characters folder. That asset is no longer there so RW_Tools flags it as missing.

It appears that the "upgrade" moved that file somewhere else, perhaps into one or more of those new .ap files.

Another thing I noticed is that Cajon Pass (route 32) no longer appears on the RW_Tools list, probably because the important information is now "hidden" in the .ap file.

I looked at the sizes and make-up of the three Kuju folders before and after the upgrade. The RailSimulator folder was exactly the same in terms of size, number of files and number of folders. The RailSimulatorCore folder grew a bit. The RailSimulatorUS folder grew a little in size but the number of files and folders reduced significantly.

If I was a conspiracy theorist I would wonder out loud how much of the uprade was necessary to make TS2014 more efficient and how much was designed to mess up third party content once more.

Bob.

UPDATE.

I've just checked a few of my other third party routes. Most of them have assets missing, mostly from the Kuju\RailSimulatorUS and RSDL folders.

The only one I've found so far that is okay is Birmingham 2010.

The following have many missing (moved) files:
Just Trains - Bristol & Avonmouth
Just Trains - Scottish ECML
Great Central Railway v3 (just released a couple of days ago)
The Mayflower Line.
Port Ogden and Chicago Metro 3

Testing continues.

D as soon as the movie starts hit ESC that will take you straight to the menu. I think this was discovered by Hack a few pages back.

NERW looks fantastic (The NERW GP38-2 looks surprisingly great)
Also went ahead and started digging through the library for some things to check out and dusted off my GG1. Forgot how much of a death trap that things feels at 120mph on the NEC.

Well the Putnam-bsb-mojave-trona-final route is back to grey skies and big fluffy clouds. Maybe the route has dynamic weather that changes randomly when loaded.

A couple other things I noticed.... Saving settings and edited stuff takes longer than before. Also... in the consist editor, it seems slow at loading up and displaying locos and rolling stock. A lot of spinning loading circles waiting for their icons to load in your assembled train.

I haven't tried everything yet, but it's gone amazingly well so far...knock on wood. My biggest beefs so far are the flickering/shimmering graphics compared to before, the increase in object Z-fighting and a draw distance that... so far.... doesn't seem that noticeably increased.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it. Especially having the.....albeit SLOW..... consist editor. Because of the issues I listed, it's looking like a grade of B- for 2014. Which considering my original low expectations, is a pretty good score in the end. Kudos!

I feel bad for you guys that are having issues. I cleared my cache, verified my cache that filled in my missing files and got my .NET v4.5 up to date before playing. It's been pretty smooth sailing so far. I feel a little guilty complaining about a sim that some can't even run. Some may need to do a clean new install from scratch. Hope you guys get it resolved. !!**sorry**!!

Didnt find any new documentation yet. Two new items in the scenario editor for scripting, no clue how to use them yet.

I was able to jump up my graphics setting two notches and still maintain 30 fps. I'd say this was a very nice upgrade for me. Everything is working fine.

I think the update has brought much greater stability to the sim and as I posted earlier whatever they did now allows me to run several things that previously I had problem with. Further I have always had a issue that if I ran a route for a while exited it and tried to run something else often I got a crash and had to reload. I haven't had that happen at all since the update even tho I was jumping around a lot testing yesterday.

At this point I have to give RSC an A in the playability category. !!*ok*!!

All files have been validated. Still unable to run any 3rd party routes including the PA Division. Can not edit any 3rd party routes or scenarios. Created a new scenario on the Cajon Pass with 3rd party repainted engines and runs fine. Seems to be something with 3rd party routes themselves. I can not find any cure, so if RSC can not correct the problem I guess I will need to move on from TS. If that happens I want to thank all who have helped me in the past.

This method worked for me and I'm not sure why? When choosing either Free Roam or Standard scenario, select all of the filters, then un-select all of the filters. After doing so, the Test Trak was available on my system.
