Run 8's strengths: Physics and Multiplayer.

Railworks strengths: Pretty much everything else.

Add Run 8's physics and Multiplayer to Railwork's pretty much everything else = Game....set....MATCH! Winner....RAILWORKS over all other sims hands down IMHO! !*YAAA*!

I still think Railworks is the winner over all as it stands now (which is why it's the sim I play 90% of the time), but that would just put an exclamation point on the end with little wiggle room to argue otherwise.

If that were to happen, Run 8 would only have one niche feature left over the others...... the longest continuous routes in a sim with 6 fully connected subdivisions.

I can't see any reason why Railworks would do that. It's too niche for mainstream. Most people just want the best railroading routes.

To craigk....

I fully agree! Feeling the weight of the train through the locomotive seat is an incredible sensation. When I was younger, I was allowed to drive with supervision (1980's) an SD40-2 consist train for 128 miles. I also once sat on the front porch of the reversed (the last loco) SD40-2 facing the first car of the cars it was helping pull. You could feel every pound of weight and the strain on the coupler. It's just unreal how heavy it feels! !*drool*!
EMD 2-strokes rule! My all time favorite: SD45X also love the SD40-2/SD40T-2/SD45-2/SD45T-2/DD35A/DDA40X/SD70ACe/SD80ACe

Thanks for your appraisal, CraigK. A couple of days ago, I received an e-mail advertisement for Trainz 12 at a drastically low price (below $10) and was tempted, but after reading your OP and thinking back to a lot of disappointing experiences with Auran's product, I decided against the offer and will use that money elsewhere.

I guess that there's a "right" train simulator for everyone who wants the experience: TS is mine.

Thanks for all the input. Its like the Miller beer commercial...tastes great....less filling, 6 one way and a half dozen another. It's all in what trips your trigger. There is no one sim that is going to cover it all at this point in time. The main thing for all of us to remember is to have fun and enjoy the wonderful world of railroading. Just the interchange of comments that all have expressed makes our little world a great community of friends. Now let's all HIGHBALL! !!*ok*!!

Myself, I can care less about any other train simulator, I'll stick with Railworks.

I used to have MSTS and after it crashed on me I'd never go back, and then I got Rail Simulator and then a while after that I got Railworks.

Afterwards I started 3d modeling a while after to build up the 1930's and the 60's.

I bought it. It was definitely cheap only $9.99. It's not too shabby once paired with the right trains and route.

"Not too shabby" ... now, there's a backhanded compliment if I ever saw one!

One thing that bugs me the most about railworks is that you can't dim the lights and you can't bail the independent. Bailing the independent is a crucial figure in train handling downhill. One thing about run8 that bugs me is the fact that they put Leslie's on their GEVOs and the couplers are without knuckles and hoses. Just as bob said earlier. The two simulators have different priorities and interests. And EVERY simulator has room to improve. But every simulator gets to choose what they want to improve because its their product.
