The one thing that would make Donner Pass more interesting:
Snow!
I mean real, dynamically generated snowdrift objects that would dramatically slow down a train and would eventually need to be plowed.

With small changes to the game engine, collision detection on such objects could act on the resistance factor of engines and rolling stock, on the slipperiness (?) of track, etc.

A "snowstorm" weather pattern would add more and more of these objects on the track, making conditions more and more difficult.

For realism, it would be nice to see it snowing way up near the summit, while it is either rainy or even sunny in Roseville and Sparks.

Dynamic weather in other words.

Talk about side-tracking and derailing! Get with the program, folks. So far we've been informed about two exciting improvements contained in TS2014.

1) A new logo!

2) A new splash screen!

How can anyone continue to fuss over a route when these exhilarating. exciting, !*drool*! ooh ... sorry about that! Hope I didn't get any on you! Good ol' Paul what-his-name is excited: what's the matter with the rest of us?

Same theory applies though. Since the RS Days we've had weather choices that change over time such as the EU Cloud/Storm weather that's default when you start making a route and the thunderstorms on Sherman Hill. So it wouldn't be difficult to create a weather pattern that mimics a slowly worsening snowstorm.
These weather patterns are dependent on time afaik, so actual dynamic weather affected by location would be great.

So far with this announcement, I'm disappointed but looking forward to the little graphics improvements. I personally think that these kinds of improvements need to be applied with smaller updates instead of a big Upgrade of the game; but that's just RSC's marketing strategy.

Hope the performance will be increased and the draw distance enlarged. Otherwise it looks a bit strange driving over Marias Pass and seeing empty hills without trees on them. And that on maximum settings and high-end hardware.

I don't know if you have ever been in mountain country but the mountains off in the distance usually look grey with no detail. You want to be able to see a tree twenty miles away?

I wanted to add a few things to my username but the system wouldn't let me. It told me that I can't add special characters like "_" or "." etc. So I had to stay like that. Don't know what's so funny about that...

Many people complained about the draw distance on Marias Pass, don't you remember? I don't want to have a huge draw distance but at least a slightly bigger one so the mountains in the background don't look too naked...

Oh you want something like this? I think we already have it. Our route designers apparently generally don't know how to use it. See Frasier & Caraboo.

I think the scenery draw distance is great in RW. I used to love Trainz, but I hated WATCHING the land and objects in the distance being assembled in front of me. It was very distracting, and I do not experience that in Railworks.

I would at least like the ability to render something such as the following:

Image

The base of the San Gabriel Mountains are 40 miles distant from the camera, with the peaks at nearly 60 miles. Even 30 miles distant (opposite direction shown) would be welcome:

Cheers!
