Of course my comment about no one using desktops was some tongue-in-cheek ribbing. I manage an office network full of desktops(from my laptop of course)! Whether one uses a laptop or desktop to enjoy TS2014 is a personal preference and my only point in my post is that there are many laptop solutions that are fully capable of running TS with no compromise in performance.

BTW, I hear you Bob. I almost always use a wireless mouse with my laptop when I run TS. *!lol!*

FEC,
Just curious if you don't mind sharing the specs on your laptop.

Sharing user built routes in the Workshop besides scenarios?

What assets can and cannot be used? Which EULA will be enforced in the Steam Workshop?

Like most ciritical users, I am not impressed with the more eyecandy that has been announced so far.
I comply with the demands of a core upgrade and all that comes with it to make full use of current mid range CPU and GPU features to give the sim a real boost.
More 'gaming features' are really low on my list.

Then I doubt RSC's programmers really have the competence to achieve that goal, which is not a rib at RSC. Programming a game core for any realistic simulator is no mean task and could take thousands of man hours when a complete world has to be created the complexity and extent of for instance the NEC or any orther busy urban environment. Programmers have to be hired and kept on the job, tasks allocated, goals set, testing, more testing, yet more testing. This surely doesn't come cheap and investments will have to be recuperated before any profit can be made. So instead we'll probably have to settle for a few small upgrades and hopefully some nice DLC that we actually want for our existing routes.

Are we US players more demanding than the Brits or Germans because of our vast routes and long and heavy trains? Does RSC really want to commit itself to the US market?

Seems to me that RSC is committing to the "World Market". I know lots of people from the UK that like to run US routes and trains. Check out UKtrainsim once in a while. There are also plenty of us here that run UK and other routes as well. With the amount of third party people in their partnership program, we will see more US stuff coming. Just wont be instant gratification.

I really hope they announce more features later on. So far I'm still disappointed. I don't mean to complain, but I haven't seen that "wow" factor from them since TS2012 came out.

At the risk of you and I being scolded by the off topic police like we were previously in this thread, I wouldn't mind at all. !!bang!! !*roll-laugh*!

I use a MacBook Pro late 2011: 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7,4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM,AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1GB GDDR5,750GB Serial ATA; 5400 rpm,15.4-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, 1440-by-900 resolution. A dedicated Windows 7 Professional 64-bit partition with all non-essential background services disabled, no anti-virus software, regularly defragged, OS updated per Microsoft auto update schedule, and system registry optimized with CCleaner.

The new Retina series of MacBooks use SSDs and NVidia graphics sets. I would suspect they would perform a bit better than mine with TS. There's always something to dream about! !*drool*!

I have a Retina Macbook Pro and that's what I use for TS2013 as well.

2.3GHz Core i7, 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, nVidia GeForce GT 650M (1GB), 250GB SSD. I have a dedicated Windows 7 install as well, and it runs pretty decently. I have every setting at max and generally run it on an external monitor (usually my 1080p TV, so 1920x1080). I get framerates around 25-35 FPS. I wish it were a bit better, personally, but I realize the graphics card just needs a bit more oomph.

In the olden-days, laptops were severely crippled in many ways compared to their desktop counterparts, but quite a few laptops these days are just desktops crammed into tighter spaces. !!howdy!!

And you can't be scolded because I am allowed to go off topic. Ir says here on my double secret admin charter.

I'm hoping we may see more updates/upgrades in the coming weeks that we "hardcore train simmers" have been pointing towards. RSC seems to be alluding that more announcements are coming and perhaps the bold new graphics and shiny new career system were to appease the general population and lure in new buyers; hence that announcement came first.

Just discovered information about the transition to TS2014 over at the Engine Driver site: http://www.engine-driver.com/2013/07/train-simulator-2014-upgrade-faq.html. Pretty much the same as for earlier major upgrades ... only the "core" routes have been changed to protect the innocent.

(Anyone accurately spotting the reference will be awarded 1,000,000 Steam trading cards ... as soon as I bother to collect them.)

Law & Order Reference?

Anyways, this is what we should expect, pretty much every time they put a new version out it will be a core upgrade that will make the game more unfriendly to the people who can't use TSX, and more broken DLC.

But, so be it...

Save his head (People with CPU's who can use TSX).

Dispose of the rest (People with CPU's who can't use TSX).

My laptop is barely on the threshold of playability with TSX on, I'm all for optimizations in the engine! In TS2012 I got about 10FPS with TSX enabled, FXAA+4xMSAA antialiasing, Anisotropic x2 texture filtering, high scenery, 10 scenery density, medium detail view distance, no shadows, medum detail water, no adaptive bloom and no depth of field, after the update last September I get about 22FPS with the same settings, which is playable in my opinion at least for this game and it still looks pretty decent. If 2014 will see another improvement even if just by 2 or 3 FPS that would be awesome, I'd be pretty satisfied.

I play on my Asus notebook, Intel i5-2540M, 6GB RAM, no dedicated graphics just the Intel HD3000 integrated into the chipset.
