A wish from a guy who spends most of his time in the route editor: Some form of easy to understand error reporting system whenever sbhh pops up. A system that tells the user why and where the sim failed.

No I don't spend most of my time in editor and an SBHH is the same thing as a game crashing to desktop with no explanation.

Offtopic I know but continue your discussion.

Oops. Sorry bpetit. That came out all wrong. The sentence was wrong, I see that now. *!greengrin!*

What I meant was, from a fellow simmer, like me in this case, who does indeed spend most of his time in the route editor, I wish RSC would release something like an easy error report displaying why something failes, rather than a cryptic sbhh.

Again, sorry bpetit, was not meant to point my finger / post to you at all... This had nothing to do with you at all. I just quoted you to place my hope for some of the new features. I know, we will just have to wait and see.

Have also sent bpetit an apology as per mail, just to make sure !!howdy!!

Since Steam is the content delivery system and provider for Train Simulator 2014, RSC is dependent on Steam for any update, be it 5 MB or a whole 3 GB.
No two players have the same routes and assets in their Railworks folder so usually some people get the whole update without faults while others end up with a borked Railworks and have to wait until Steam sorts it out. We tend to blame RSC, but apart from some slackness in the QC and QoS department before a release is made, most of the trouble is by account of Steam.

When September 22 draws near, there will be more questions and advice in this matter. Perhaps even an official announcement from RSC.

Make a full backup just in case, because your mileage will vary.

Well I just got Marias Pass recently during the summer sale. Have quick driven across almost 25% of the route. It's by far the slowest framerate of any route I own. Looks great though.

Question..... Did they increase draw distance with this route like they promised? I recall them saying something about reducing the poly count on far objects in order to increase the overall draw distance. I've been busy with all the games I've been playing (from cheap steam sales) and haven't played my sim in awhile until I bought Marias Pass.

Because of this, I can't really tell if the draw distance has really increased that much......what say you guys.... did it? !**conf**!

What I DO notice is the shadow draw distance on the trees seems shorter than on other routes......or am I just thinking it is?!?!? !*don-know!*

I wonder if they have a graphics engine update that increases the framerate in store for us like last time? The last one only improved mine about 2fps-4fps compared to most people's dramatic improvement. I'm hoping I can get a few more frames faster yet again. But something tells me they can't improve that much more without a total REWRITE of the graphics engine. I doubt they will go that far.

Looking forward to this update either way! !!*ok*!!

Mike's mentioned the fact that he uses the usual version of 3DC to create his models and I'll confirm that I only use the standard route editor stuff for my trackwork etc. There's nothing underhand about the tools that are being used to create the routes. I couldn't even run the final version of Sherman Hill properly until TS2013 had been released! *!rolleyes!*

Massively! No idea what was changed but in the early days of the route if you were heading east from Whitefish the mountains would pop up about halfway to Columbia Falls. Now you can see them all the way. !*salute*!

Or I may sit elsewhere, never knowing you.
But if fate should mark me to sit by your side,
Let's be pleasant travellers; it's so short a ride."

Thanks! I wasn't sure because I used to play RW3 a lot, then I just stopped playing. Not because I don't enjoy it, but because I was slowly collecting all these games on Steam sales. The games were piling up, but not getting played cuz I'd be on RW for hours or surfing the net for news and hitting up the forums. I had to start cracking on those games. So noticing the improvements was harder for me to notice after being away from RW so long.

Marias Pass definitely puts a hurtin' on my laptop in the framerate department. I put the filtering at that max 3x3 SSAA on this route for the hell of it and it killed me all the way down to 2fps-3fps...... but BOY was it a darn pretty slide show! !*roll-laugh*!

I also like the attention to detail in the route like those electrical conduits bolted on at the entrance of tunnels. !!*ok*!!

For some reason the DEPTH OF FIELD filter doesn't work for me on this laptop you see in my sig even though I had it ON. It definitely doesn't work with my dedicated 1GB Radeon HD 7670M GPU.... but if memory serves me right it didn't work with my laptop's less powerful built-in Radeon HD 7520G either when I tried it. Both are DX11 class GPUs, so I can't understand why. It worked on my friend's desktop with a Nvidia card. !*don-know!*

GSKid & others: to the best of my knowledge, RSC has never stated that any version of TrainSimulator will run on any laptop computer. If I'm wrong about this, please correct me. Otherwise you folks are just complaining because you can't get peaches from a cherry tree.
