Amtrak Boxcars (request)

Unread postby imphantum » Tue Jul 30, 2013 3:25 pm

I don't like doing this, but I'm making a request.
I noticed that Amtrak's zephyr and even the Empire Builder from the 90's almost always carried boxcars, and to me, my Zephyr consist feels incomplete without them now. I don't think there is one available to the community as of now (correct me if I'm wrong) So if anyone has any free time to make one of these I'd really appreciate it!
Here's a reference pic:

Find me a car in game that looks like it and I'll take a look tonight. You do the research and I'll whip you up a paint job.

Sounds like a deal buzz!
Well I found this:
http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=431419
Its a simple 50ft modern box car or a 50ft PS box car would do
there are also reefers like this:
http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=240401
But all in all, I cant find a box car with the same trucks as the prototypical car but I'd be satisfied with a 50ft box car in Phase III paint !!*ok*!!

I think that some actually did make it there, but they were mostly from maybe the 50s. Some others were probably converted (again) to kitchen cars and what not. I can't seem to find a picture though.

Anybody know if these trucks exist anywhere in Railworks?

The trucks appear to be high-speed full cushion swing-motion SL passenger coach trucks...Like the ones under light-weight streamliner cars. I don't suppose those kind of trucks could be borrowed from a G-TraX or Britkits .GeoPcDx SL car design file. The express car design probably has to be drawn from the rails up to include those fancy trucks. Oh, well.

It looks from pictures that there were all kinds of sizes and truck configurations on these things. The one I did was a fifty footer with regular trucks, the one pictured is a sixty with the passenger trucks. I can probably cobble the door from the other one onto the kuju default sixty and I'll give it a try with the GTrax trucks since they are freeware and see what happens.

Bogies are part of the base model, you can't swap them out.
