Pagin you physics heads.

So Im trying to plug in my own tractive effortVS speed and throttle .csv files. I seem to be setting it up at least correctly enough to pass the blueprint editor. I basically copied the defaults TEvsthrottle and dynamicbrakeeffort vs speed. But im trying to play around with TE vs speed since it seems to be the simplest to understand. I know that P=Ft*V. However the units seem to be messed up. the gp60s power at rail is 2000hp. continuous Tractive effort is 62,400lbs @ 11.1mph. I assume that RW is using mph on the left column and kN on the right? I basically just divided 2000/11.1 to get my kN value and repeat for all the other speeds. Does the 11.1mph need to be converted to M/s to get the right value?

Basically if I use my .dcsv files the locomotive wont move. if i restore back to aliasing the default .dscv the loco moves. What gives? and can someone explain in the simplest of terms how tractiveEffortvs throttle gets calculated. I understand its an inverse relationship.

I've done it only for a steam loco, but maybe the info will still help ...

In the T.E. versus speed, the speed (left hand column) is in mph, and the right hand column is the fraction of the maximum (starting) t.e. at that speed.

Mine's set up as follows:

Speed Fraction

0 1.0
5 0.97
10 0.9
15 0.785
20 0.635
25 0.5
30 0.398
35 0.33
40 0.279
45 0.243
50 0.223
55 0.22
60 0.22

The curve looks like this:

The other curve I have is t.e. versus cut-off. The left hand column is the cut-off and the right-hand column is the fraction of starting t.e. you get for each value of cut-off.

I see that but, i looked in the defaults sd40 dcsv and the values look like this.

0, 454.xx
11.1, 454.xx
20, 335.xx

etc...

whys urs different.

I see why ... mine's a "TractiveEffortLinearVsSpeed" (this uses fractions of the maximum), whilst the SD40-2 is a "TractiveForceVSpeed" (this must use absolute values).

yea that's not gonna help. I wanted to try to redo the dscv's but the loco doesn't move when I create my own.

OK figured it out. it had nothing to do with the .csv files after all. I put one of the .csv files in the wrong section in the engine sim blueprint. woops!

everything works. I like the new values its more difficult for the loco to pull off the start. Im gonna work on fixing the braking so that its notched better.

Ian, If you can figure out a way to limit the locomotive to 12 mph in notch one when it's on flat level track, please let me know how you did it?

fixed the braking so that the notch value is false this time. however im still working out why it takes forever for the train brake to be applied on flat track. I have it on suppression and the train slowly creeps to a hault at a staggering 0.1mph per 10 sec.

A question... when creating the TractionEffortvsSpeed chart, is TE at rail, or not?

Ok going to ask my question here:

Basically I want to change the performance of some steam locomotives I have. I want to reduce the performance on the Britkits shays and vulcans. Dont get me wrong I love to be able to steam up the side of a mountain with only cracking my regulator. I just want realism at this point. And while I am at it I want to give the vulcan more coal and water to start with.

So here is the question: what programs do I need to manipulate the performance of my steam locomotives, and what are the files that I need to target?

Oh and one more thing, where can I go to get manuals for the blueprint editor, asset editor, and the like. I dont know where to look with the new railsimulator website.
