Does anyone know who did this?

The video was posted by DDJProductions2011. Is he a RWA user? Those default Big Boy sounds are !*not-ok*!.

No idea on that one. Otto did one for the V1 version. I actually contacted RSC last month about the official V2 sound update that was promised as a feature of the new model when it first went on sale and was pretty much told to just go away, so personally I am not holding out any hope of actually seeing it. The original sounds were very ordinary and the only reason I bought the new version was the promised "new & improved sound set" Lesson learnt - I just wont buy any RSC content, because they just cant be taken at their word. Mike Rennie is doing a superb job on his projects and Joe is working on some great re-skins of existing steam.

I wish the US were in a position to have custom sound packs created of actual steamers similar to the UK ones, but not having actual running examples to sample, it makes life difficult. Sound plays a great part in the overall immersion, and no matter how good the model, if it sounds like a toy it is a great let down.

!*cheers*!

There is a improved sound pack out there for V2. I don't own it.

Thanks Grant :D

I'll make sure that the FEF-3 is something very special.

I agree with you. It took me ages to get the Consolidation's sounds to the point where Matt and I were happy with them, especially the chuffs, although there will always be a need (which I'll try to satisfy when I have time) for alternative sounds to suit people's personal preferences (in particular, things like bells and whistles). I had only sound samples from YouTube videos to work with, but I managed to get some decent results with a lot of work. When the dev has access to the real locomotive, there's really no excuse for not providing superior sounds. We'll have to see what I can do with the FEF's sounds. I can't afford a trip over to the States, let alone buy all the professional sound equipment.

I wonder how they could get sounds for the Big Boy and Challenger ... are there any examples still in operation?

!*cheers*!

Mike

Challenger is still in operation. UP 3985. Actually wait, I think she's under her 15 year maintenance period so she's being rebuilt.

844 however if someone contacted UP about it, I could go record it.

I was thinking of contacting them anyway, but I wanted to ask Matt about it first (for the permission to use the UP name). I'll get back to you!

The UP steam guys seem a great bunch and very approachable. I was over there in 2010 having spent a couple of days on Powder River (photographing boxes I am embarrassed to say *!embar*! ) and contacted them about getting permission to enter onto their site for a look round. Ended up with a full guided tour of all of the facility, including cabs of both 844 & 3985 as well as an invitation to ride a test train with 3985 the following day. Unfortunately I was booked to fly home to Oz and couldn't, but it was a very generous offer. I am sure if contact is made (I found snail mail best because you know at least one person will see the letter unlike email which can just disappear into the ether) you will get a positive response. 844 is running a couple of trips this year (see the UP steam website) - you never know... :D

!*cheers*!

You've been in the cab of 844?!! Now I'm *!greengrin!* with envy *!lol!* I'll definitely have to write a letter to them, after I check with Matt, seeing as how RSC has already had dealings with UP. I'd love to get the chance to go over there and take hundreds of photos. I'd be taking pictures of things that nobody else would ever even think of photographing.

!*cheers*!
