MSTS add-on's usable in TS 2013?

Unread postby jgorman » Sat Apr 27, 2013 12:04 pm

*!greengrin!* Hi all - after 10 plus years in MSTS I've converted to Train Simulator et al. Are any products such as Routes, Locomotives, etc usable to any extent in TS 2013?

Thanks, jgorman

First let me say welcome to the forum and what most of us here think is the best Simulator out there. There is nothing from MSTS usable in 2013. The whole make up is different. However if you go to the library you will find a ton of Locomotives, cars, routes and such to keep you busy for quite a while. Any questions you have feel free to ask. Someone here will know the answer. We are a friendly bunch at RWA and everyone tries to help each other.

Welcome, yes, MSTS items directly aren't usuable in Train Simulator 2013 but they can be converted.

I know someone at some point figured out how to convert MSTS items, but I don't know how they did it. If one knows how to convert the item though it is possible to get a MSTS item into the sim though.

I used to play MSTS as well, but came to Railworks a long time ago.

Welcome to Railworks. I was also an avid MSTS user, but after working with RW I would never go back. One observation I would make is that you really don't need any MSTS assets. Railworks is growing quickly and the new assets are no comparison to the old. It sometimes takes a little searching, but almost everything you need is now available for RW.

I played once on msts for vora. Error got way out of hand and I quit. Glad I bought rw first.

I've heard of people being able to convert some assets, but I'd imagine they look like a pixelated mess in Railworks. Since technically Railworks had it roots in MSTS (Kuju), I had hoped for some backwards comparability of some kind. I'd really like to play the Surfliner 2 route updated to Railworks assets. That would be awesome! It's a HUGE route! It's over 1GB in size....and that's with MSTS assets. Imagine how big of size it would be using RW native assets!! !*drool*!

If you want to see what MSTS stuff looks like in RW just look at pictures of the class91 posted by people on RSC's facebook page.

Has anyone tried to get the Surfliner 2 into RW3 yet?

I don't think ROUTES are able to be transferred, but I know assets are, and yes, they look horribly pixelated in railworks. !*roll-laugh*!
