Newbie repainting question:Where are these from?

Unread postby fecrails » Tue Apr 02, 2013 1:44 pm

I've been working on my first repaint project and I've hit a mystery. There are some characters that display on the SD70M-2 NS unit that I am repainting and they don't come from the texture files. Are these part of the 3d model and can't be removed? !*don-know!* !**conf**!

I circled the characters in question in the attached picture.

You have to look in the other textures. There might be something called decals or extras or misc. Or it could be stuffed in to anyone of them.

I'll keep looking. It must be hidden well. I just assumed it would be on the decal texture file and I would blank out the NS characters when I was done. It's not on there. !*not-ok*!

I'll dig around some of the other texture files and report back. Thanks Bob. *!!thnx!!*

I can see you changed the color of them, so you may have been there before.

You might want to look at the alpha channels too. They could be under a swatch of color with unwanted parts alphaed out.

Yes sir! That was the tip of the day! The text is on the decal texture file and shows as a white blank area until the alpha channel is turned on in Photoshop. Browsing the files with RSBin Tool will not reveal the hidden text until you drill down and look at the indivdual mip maps. Thanks Bob! !*salute*! **!!bow!!**

Glad to help and glad you found it, little things can be frustrating at times. Look at the alphas, you may find other things and go "Oh, is that how they did that!" Then you say, "What if I..." and the fun gets better.
