Nickel Plate Passenger Locomotive challenge

Unread postby NKP1 » Fri Mar 29, 2013 8:29 am

Kudos to MadMike for releasing his excellent NKP passenger car re-paints. However, the correct motive power for this train, a six axle Alco PA, has yet to be produced for the sim. http://www.google.com/search?q=nickel+p ... 0QHg3oC4CQ

Perhaps one of you is willing to take on the challenge?
A donation to your favorite railroad charity is on the table.

The Berkshire is a freight locomotive. This train was never pulled by one.

How about a 4-8-4 Northern? The "Bluebird" never had Steam motive power?

As a comparison, C&O had a good many 4-8-4 "Greenbrier" class locos pulling passenger car sections. Or maybe a C&O 4-6-2 Class F19 Pacific or C&O 4-6-4 Class L2 Hudson were used. Even a 4-6-4 Class L1 Hudson Streamliner "Chessie" pulled strings of modern LtWt coach trains in the late 40's and early 50's.

I can't imagine that NKP was any different in the early days - before the Alco PA-1 came on the scene.

I checked out the NERW site and appears I found a Challenger, my guess V2. Has anyone tried to repaint that locomotive similar to K4 NERW? Not trying to change the subject, its just a question.

You mean a "Blue" Challenger? Now that would be the Cat's Meow!

What about a fictitious GS-4 in Bluebird Colors? That certainly would be a beautiful sight!

Supposedly . . . I checked with the last guy that talked about it a few days ago and although he says he's interested, due to other projects, he has no idea when he could possibly begin. So I guess he's out. Many have promised over the past few years but none have actually delivered. I was hoping the fellow that created the DTM FA would give us a PA as well. But he never got back with me.

I have PM'd LordMannu again inviting him to join this conversation. Perhaps if more of you PM'd him as well, he might be able to help us out.

I get the impression that 'special requests' to the various designers are frowned upon. Even to ask that a busy Developer quit work on a current 'pet' project to fulfill a "Pretty Please" is Verboten.

Everyone that I have asked for something special has encouraged me to "Learn the Trade" and do it for myself then share the results with the Community.

Of course, each person I have approached said they would consider my request if time permitted. And that is encouraging...

this is true, some time ago I always would ask for people to do repaints and got the same result, so with some help I tried it out myself and it was ALOT easier than I thought and now I find it fun to do!

I am not suggesting for anyone to drop anything for this. Do not misunderstand. If someone with the skills has the time in the near future to tackle this . . . great! Most appreciated. Charitable funds are on the table.

I have received a personal request to remove a post I made above. I would like to comply with my friend's wishes but I appears that I has been "Quoted" so as much as I would like to comply, unfortunately what I said cannot be retracted. My intent was not to insult but to share my personal experinces when I have asked special favors of our talented cadra of Developers/Designers/Repainters. My intent was not to start a "Flame", and I appologize if my observations came across as such.

Nothing wrong with your post, you were just trying to prevent problems.

I think NKP1 has taken great pains to avoid looking pushy with this topic. !*salute*!
There's nothing wrong with saying "hey, this would be a great idea if anyone ever wants to do this".

What developers dislike is being drawn in, like this:
Dev: "Hey, I proudly present my new switcher! "
Random guy: "Great! Now could you also do it in livery B, C, D and E? Also add ditch lights? And a dynamic-brake version?"

Back to topic: The PA was one of the most beautiful engine and I would make one if I could!
