Big Boy V2 Sound Update

Unread postby ozinoz » Thu Feb 28, 2013 4:28 pm

Wondering if I could ask a favour of somebody here with the Farcebook, whether they can post over on RS' page regarding the promised Big Boy V2 sound update that was advertised as a feature to be released separately more than a quarter of a year ago. There has been no mention of it since before the BB was released and I for one feel cheated.

You do what you can to support them to help ensure the longevity of the sim, but you never seem to get the level of support in return.

!*cheers*! and *!!thnx!!*

We were told by RSC that they wanted to get the UP Big Boy out for a sale and so put in sounds from other engines and did indeed promise an update to fix that. It hasn't come yet. The OP asked if someone might post a query about it on Facebook. There was no "hyperventilation." He expressed a feeling of being cheated. You may not agree that he was cheated, but I don't see a problem with him expressing that feeling. I personally agree that the level of support at RSC is poor. There does seem to be less concern for addressing problems with DLC already bought than with getting new DLC to be bought "out the door." Most of it does get fixed, eventually, such as DP. But it does seem to take a while and not all of it gets fixed.

I've said something to this effect before, but the growing tone of dismissal from moderators for those who express opinions that differ from theirs is disturbing. Moderator is an important and largely thankless job, I know. One of the most important aspects of it is setting the tone for the forum as a whole. I always appreciated Hawk for precisely that reason.

I am not going to argue with you about except to say that we are trying to keep this positive for everyone. If you want to bitch about RSC I just suggest you do it elsewhere. If you would like something to improve anything out there ask politely if anyone has done anything to improve any product. That just doesn't have to include accusing RSC of shortchanging any of you all of the time. I repeat, if you don't feel you are getting the value you deserve vote by keeping your wallet closed and complain directly to them.

You may notice that there is very little presence of the RSC people on here anymore. I think that's probably because they got tired of reading a lot of complaining. If I come off as rude I apologize to anyone I offended.

The problem is with what the moderators consider "bitching" and with what I consider a double standard with respect to "politeness." Members are expected to always be polite according to moderator standards, but moderators don't seem to be held to that standard. Of course, it's a matter of perception. But I believe, from past experience, that giving everyone the benefit of the doubt...in other words, reading everyone's contribution as reasonable and positive if at all possible, and responding to those that clearly aren't in positive rather than negative terms, would go far further at maintaining a positive experience for everyone.

I suspect there are other reasons for RSC absence around here. UKTrainsim has far more tolerance of criticism than this forum appears to and has as much or more RSC participation.

I don't think either of those statements is true.

I don't think that statement is true, either. And the whole deal with having to have comments approved is simply absurd and untimely. Who has a whole day to wait around for a post to be approved?

Well, I suppose the word "tolerance" is open to interpretation, but there is certainly far more criticism there. And, a quick review of, say Derek and Bob, a couple of the more frequent RSC posters here (and fine gentlemen all around!!), shows Derek at 254 total posts here, and Bob at 89. Derek has 4760 at UKTrainsim, and Bob at 3502.

As for the automatic post approval process there, it certainly is a pain sometimes, and a bit silly, if you ask me, but a completely different issue (and driven by concern for lawsuits).
