Does anyone know of any good pictures and good blueprints of any of these.

I've been thinking of trying to get a mow truck into the game before I try a diesel locomotive as a learning project. Also, I want to do a cab for it and animate all the controls to help prepare for building a diesel locomotive.

Mainly, what I need is a good blueprint and possibly some photo's of a 1960's high rail truck. I looked on google images and wasn't able to find a thing, not even any photo's.

Did they even have high rail trucks in the 60's? I thought it was mainly speeders, and Geese.

Converted is the key word I think. I can't recall seeing any actual high rail trucks until the 80's.

I am not saying I am right, just that as a kid I don't remember seeing anything like that on the rails. SP loved their speeders up in Niles.

FWIW, there's were converted railcars at least as far back as the Model-A. :D

I have a print ad saved to my hard drive of Fairmont HY- rail gear attached to a 1960's VW bus. Yes converted autos have been around since the early 1900's,but that is of course different that gear that allows road and rail use, which was the start of the thread. But they did become more common in that late 70's-on,so that is fair to say.

I've decided I might try to build about a 1965- 1970 Peterbuilt large flatbed truck as a high rail truck. Does anyone know what the highrail train wheel that rides on the track looks like and what the other parts of this part looks like.

The truck is the large flatbed truck, about as big as a semi and used to hall train wheels and the wooden planks for track repair.

Who was it, Harrison? Was working on a speeder? (sorry, I don't remember Harrison's screen name) Out here in So Cal, all the MOW stuff has retractable, small rail wheels. can't be more than 12" diameter. The back tires on the truck propel it and brake it. Retract the steel rail wheels, and it's a normal truck.

I don't see any real big MOW stuff out here, it's just the Hi Rail pickups, maybe an F350 with a utility box on back or maybe a "cherry picker" basket thing.

next time I go to the Alameda Corridor area, I'll take my camera. If they let me in to do some railfanning (yeah, the TSA watches all the tracks in that yard) I'll see if I can find some MOW stuff and get pics. Oh, all the "old" stuff has been scrapped around here. UP and BNSF like shiny new stuff. !*salute*!

Here's what I'm going to be building to be a High Rail Mow vehicle, except the model will be a crane instead of a semi, that is, it will be the vehicle with a crane mounted on it.

A little more progress on the truck, did some texturing of the body. Tomorrow I'll start on the frame and then do the wheels.
