New to RWA and I need a little bit of help

Unread postby NJTransit4Lyfe » Thu Mar 01, 2012 3:31 pm

Hi my name is NJTransit4Lyfe. But you can call me Brandon if you'd like to do so. I got RW3 TS12 two months ago along with NEC and Acela Express and its been really nice to drive trains that are close to home. I grew up near the Northeast Corridor and have been taking NJ Transit since I was three. Anyway, I'm going to get down to business, I made some NJ Transit repaints of the Class 166 DMU and I imported them into the game, but when I try to put them in one of my free roam scenarios, the entire game freezes completely, with no response if i click anything. It doesn't even crash! **!!bang!!** !*hp*! I was wondering if someone can tell me what I did wrong thats making it so that I cant put the trains down. !*don-know!* I was planning on reskinning the DB 101 into an NJT Alp46 and the FGW high speed coaches into NJ Transit colors, but I cant do that if the game freezes every time I try to put the train down. If anybody can help me, it would be greatly appreciated. :D

I surmise that you made an error in the bin file for the repaint. Go back and double check all entries - compare against original bin file for the engine.

Thank you for replying. Just one thing, though. I am not sure what is wrong in the bin file as I am new to reskinning and some of the tutorials online have been very vague about this type of thing. I cannot seem to find any differences in the .bin file. Do you think you can take a look at it yourself and tell me whats wrong? I can't seem to figure that out for the life of me.

Use the package manager to create an rwp file and attach it to a post. (you may have to create a zip file for it to upload on the forum)

Here it is. NOTE: The original file used for the DMOCL and DMOS is the Class 166 Default. This is not a public release. I put it up here so some experts on the .bin files could help me with it.

According to the files you downloaded, your geometry file is located here:

homiedeveloper\RailVehicles\Diesel\Class166\NJ Transit\DMOCL

However it is referenced in the bin file as being here:

Kuju\RailSimulator\RailVehicles\Diesel\Class166\Default\DMOCL\[00]class166_dmocl

Again thank you for helping me with this. I changed the directory, but when I tried to save the.bin RWTools gave me Error #53 and another error about serz.exe being unable to read the file or something. I really hate to ask you for more but can you fix the train? I am using the the trial version of RWTools and I dont think i'll be able to keep using it since I have 8 sessions left.

Here is the revised file. I put some of the directories as the folder where the train is.

To start with, if you are going to be doing much at all with RailWorks, you are going to have to get the full version of RW_Tools. In the mean time if you just need to edit bin files, then download KRS Bin Convert Update from Trainsim.com and also get a free copy of Context (http://www.contexteditor.org/)

Secondly, I do not understand why you created a clone in another asset folder, you should have made a new folder in the Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\RailVehicles\Diesel\Class166 folder.

I suggest you read some of the tutorials on reskinning:

- http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?t=292657
- http://www.3dtrains.com/guides/painting/

I will take a further look at your files, but it will not be a priority, and I hesitate to try installing into my RW asset folder, given the problems you are having and your apparant lack of knowledge of the RW file system.

Please do a little more leg work on your own.
