Is anyone thinking of taking on a conversion? *!greengrin!*

I'll try to get it into the game, but I might require some help. And like they asked for, it will be a freeware file.

Of course, if someone else would like to convert the item and make it freeware like the person asked to be done with their model that would be even better.

Some work on the beast. Added some textures since there wasn't a texture on it already.

I'll also build a 3d cab for it, or at least attempt to build a 3d cab using a reference photo I found.

Be sure to note in the creator's post that there are graphics there for a C&O model or a Virginian model. I think most of us want a C&O (???).

Do you have any pictures of the C&O version.

Leave it to be known though, it will be a while before I can actually finish this though and get it into the game. First, I must build up some experience and get a train car into the game, then a diesel, and then a small steam. Also, I will have to redo the wheels and some of the parts, and also make the cab.

I do but there are hundreds of photos online, including the one on display at the B&O Museum in Baltimore. For east-coasters, this beast is about as well-known and photographed as the Big-Boy in the west.

Don't worry... I know it's a huge project. Perhaps some folks would pitch in and make it a team project? That would be very cool, wouldn't it... the first community-built freeware U.S. steam locomotive for TS/RW?

It would be nice, but I highly doubt anyone would want to help with it. Most of them are already too busy unfortunately.

I saw the MSTS release of the engine. Its fantastic the author released the source files. I hope this gets imported into RW! That will be another loco for my C&O,N&W,DT&I route.

Well, If I'm successful at converting it, it will be Railworks freeware.

I just read the "MSTS to Railworks?" thread; is this project a bad idea? Personally, I too have been disappointed with the steamer conversions up to now. The Atlantic is probably the best but even it hardly ever makes a showing on my tracks which I'm guessing has some reason. I know nothing about modeling or conversions; learned some from that thread. Just thought of something.... would any of the new shaders and/or lighting in TS'12 make the conversions better than they were in RW2? (think I'll go take a look at one)

I was just going to post a link to that thread when I saw your post. *!greengrin!*

Anyway, here's a link to it for those that might have missed it.

It might be OK to convert simple MSTS models into RW, like buildings and such. Rich Garber converted a bunch of his MSTS buildings to RW. There's even a tutorial in the library here on how to import TSM files into 3DC for conversion to RW. I don't think it's worth it with rollingstock though.

We could still give it a shot though.

Well, I was able to get actual permission from the author and he said I can put it into the game if I like. He actually said that he didn't require permission to use his files. Now, the only thing that will stop me from getting this into the game is circumstance.

Sorry to bring up an old topic but could someone transfer the files to me? The website won't let me download..
