Starting over with the SD40-2

Well the good news about all of our old SD40-2 repaints is that they do in fact work in TS2012. The bad news, they're stuck using the old SD40 model we had in RW2. **!!bang!!**

So we're basically back to square one with this new model, but I guess it's not all bad. The old had pretty bad textures which is why I never tried to repaint it but the new one is perfect.

That being said, I've started on something to go with the new Horseshoe Curve route:

I'm still trying to get rid of those UP logos. They're actually being applied like number textures this time and if anyone could help me out there, I'd appreciate it.

And for those of you who also want to start repainting this model, here's something to give you a hand:

Go easy on me please. This is the first time I've ever made repaint templates. *!embar*!

If I only work up the nerve and try repainting... That and I still need RW_Tools. New repaints should look awesome. Especially the since the headlight is in the correct position and not in the nose (always bugged me).

Actually you could do repaints without RW_Tools. RSBinTool (a free program) can export and import the textures, DXTBmp (also free) can convert files and you use serz.exe to convert the bin files into xml files that you can edit in notepad then use serz.exe to convert them back. Though I never had much success using serz.exe but maybe I was just doing something wrong. RW_Tools just makes editing the bin files easier.

Hmm, thanks. I'll give it a try. I'll get RW_tools at some point. Looks like it makes things a whole easier. *!!thnx!!*

RW Tools is WELL WORTH the small investment. Check it out. I use it all the time to substitute for missing locomotives and rolling stock.

No problem. I only wish RSC would make a tunnel motor so I could have a real SP model and stop pretending.

What's goin on with the numbering though? Cause all we got on the new model is 3210.

And PapaXpress:

Were you aware that this existed?
Pretty good model, found it on TS.com a while ago. I'd like one from RSC or whomever but I thought I'd bring this one to light

Yea...

And this is the line in the readme that scared me away:
Being the first model I have created repainting this model will be next to impossible as the textures are all over the place! However I hope to do a Southern Pacific version sometime.

Considering that this was posted a year ago and there is no SP repaint... besides, I would like to have rain effects and ask you can tell it doesn't sound like this developer wants to revisit this model.

If I get time tonight... or if someone else beets me to it, I will look at what is up with the numbers.

Ah yeah, forgot about that. Oh well, I think there might be some more developers getting in the RW3 market soon so, I'm sure one'll be made eventually.

Yeah I've noticed that numbering problem as well. Even if you try to change the number in the flyout window, it just stays at 3210. !*don-know!*

I sent a PM to Derek about the problem so hopefully he can help us fix it.
