Creating Good Shadow Geometry

I'm not happy with the results of the shadow geometry I have created. Even though the internal shape is as large as I can make it without it sticking out of my main shape, I still get light spilling over the top edge of the model on the shade side. Any one know of any tricks to prevent this? It seems to me that the shadow shape should not be adding shadow to the side of the vehicle that is allready in the shade.

I was looking for ways to edit/remove existing stencil shadows the other day and came across
this, might be of some use to you.

Thanks very much for the link guys and thanks to Sly for the idea! It's a very interesting approach. I expanded my shadow geometry until it surrounded the car then flipped all normals to point inward, and am much happier with the results.

The 3DC Building Tutorial on this page
http://railworksamerica.com/FileLibrary ... -2009.html discusses that shadow subject as well.
