Question for Rolling Stock Creators

I have read a number of posts on relocating dynamic numbering but still have many questions. Could one of the builders give us some insight as to how you locate dynamic lettering in the model construction process? How do you create the locations within the GEO files? Also, would it help to create a grid overlay in computing new locations for numbers? My favorite railroad, the Southern, tended to place its car numbers on the middle of many of their freight cars.
Thanks for helping keep this topic open.

They are a separate object named "primarydigits" made up of multiple panels in the GEO file

So, if I change the numbers on the side of a car, will it also affect the position of the end numbers?

If you can edit the primarydigits object in the GEO file you can place and size each individual number panel anywhere you wish, but I think doing it manually in the GEO file rather than the source file is very complicated.

If it's one of my cars you are looking at I can modify it for you.

Hi Mainline,
I love your screengrab and as it's very vivid. To carry on further, as Harry questioned, is it possible to place multiple Auto-numbering within the .geopcdx file. Thus, to be clearer for your hopper I would say 3 individual primarydigits : one for each side (2) + one the both ends (1) = 2+1.
Thanks for your response,

Good question. I don't really know since I have never tried it, but since I believe the auto-number system looks for an object specifically named "primarydigits" i'm not sure how you could name the additional objects. I guess you could use the Secondary Named Texture Set feature in the vehicle's blueprint to do that; but you would still have to create a new object in the vehicle's geometry file, so you might as well just edit all the original "primarydigits" object's panels to have the the size and location that you want.
What we really need is the ability to add an additional "primarydigits" object to someone else's existing model as a child object. So far I have not figured out how to do that.
