Modify engine physics

Unread postby wlenz781 » Wed Aug 21, 2019 11:14 am

Is it possible to modify an engine so that it goes faster? I want to recreate a Tri-GP49. In order to do this, I want to adjust the GP40-2 Pack so that its top speed is the same as the NJT GP40PH. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I have just about the same question, except instead of speed, I am looking for tractive effort.

I've been using the ex-MSTS Triplex as a B&O EL Class 2-8-8-0, which is simply replacing the "tender" with a standard Vanderbilt one.

My only issue is that the lead engine counts as a wagon, so it generates no power, while the back end is another "engine". This means my B&O Mallet is only as powerful as a 0-8-0 switcher. It can't even pull 60 55-ton hoppers loaded with coal on the B&LE route without a helper (I used the Smokebox Consolidation). !*hp*!

My solution is to take the middle section (with the cab and boiler), and double the strength value of the second set of cylinders to compensate, but I don't know how to change those values. !*don-know!*

Without looking I think you need to look in the simulation folder.

It seems that there is no simulation folder and instead in the main engine folder there is ORW_EngineScript.lua. I am guessing this is the main simulation file, except what program do I use to open and edit it?

A plain text editor.
Lua is the source code for the scripting engine.

I can't speak for TheRFan, but I have managed to solve the issue myself, with the help of some youtube tutorials. I opened the FanRailer GP40PH Simulation bin and the GP40-2 Simulation bin side-by-side and modified the values for all the variables. I copied over the dscv files and replaced them. The result, a GP40-2 that will do 99.9mph while pulling 4 passenger cars.

Yes I just used notepad and it seemed to work.

Ok, I think it might be just a bit different for me since it is a steam engine but I guess trial and error is necessary. *!!wink!!*
