Blender UnWrapping Issue

Basically the problem i'm having is how do I unwrap separate objects so that they all use the same texture sheet or multiple texture sheets?
Can it be done without having to merge all the parts?
Every model I've unwrapped so far has been small enough to use one sheet and basic enough to use the smart unwrap or normal unwrap.
I've gone through a mountain of tutorials looking for this but they all just cover cubes or single objects.
Any help is much appreciated *!!thnx!!*

I use the 'Texture Atlas' addon provided with Blender. Go to your 'User Preferences' , Addons tab, and search for those words. There's a link there to the documentation.

Essentially, it temporarily merges your parts while you do the unwrapping. Then when you are done, it separates them again.

As with all things Blender, it seems complicated at first, but I've been using this tool for years now and it does the job.

Does it keep the names of the parts when it seperates them again?
Edit; I've got it so i'll have a play and see if i can get the answer myself.
Thanks Wayne !!*ok*!!

Yes, everything about the parts is restored when the mapping is finished.
