Questions - Animations

Unread postby TheRailWorkshop » Sun Aug 26, 2018 7:13 am

Hi,

I am looking for an answer about the animation of doors & windows in locomotive.

In my 3D Program, I have inserted the respective key-frames for the opening and closing of the doors and windows.
In the game, when I click on the doors and windows, they are working smoothly.

The problem is the drag option which I saw in Class 40415 and many other Locos which I owns, where we can drag the mouse to open the window to any position within the given key-frame, say opening the doors and windows by dragging the mouse to some extent and it will open up, say if I wish to open only 50% of the door and windows.

In case of my loco I don't see any option for this as I know I am missing something, when I click on doors and windows it opens 100 without any issue.

What is required to make the drag like opening for windows and doors?

Similar issue is with the brake cylinder animation which I saw in Western Pacific GP20 High Nose if I remember correctly.
When I apply the brakes 100% and 0% then only the animation works but what about 50% application of work, the brake should open/close 50%?

Thanks in advance.

In the engine blueprint, look at the control value for the door/window and its associated "interface element". It should be an "Interior lever" (not an "Interior notched lever" or "Interior push button").

As for the brake cylinder animation, there's no need to make it do less than 100% of the animation sequence. When the brakes apply, even if it's only partially, they almost immediately push the brake shoes up against the wheel tire (without any contact between shoe and tire, there wouldn't be any braking at all). Further brake pressure increases the pressure in the cylinder and the force being made by the show against the tire, but there isn't any further movement of the shoe (or the brake cylinder piston). In the opposite sense, releasing the brakes, the piston moves the shoe away from the tire when there's no more braking pressure. If you've got the FEF-3, try using the independent brake handle to apply and release the brakes and watch the brake cylinders on the trailing truck of the locomotive - you'll see what I mean.
