G-TraX GP40 Repainting Template?

Unread postby ET44C4 » Mon Mar 06, 2017 3:19 pm

Is there a repainting template (with stencil layers) that I can use for repainting the G-TraX GP40? Thanks for your answer in advance.

I've run into similar problems with diesels with that kid of mapping. Removing a detail on the hood makes that part disappear from the model. It's a pain trying to paint those models.

Yeah I know right. I see multiple repaints with the details and I wonder how they get the details to show. !*don-know!*

I just can't seem to figure out how to remove the paint job and remove the logos and such but keep the details.

When using paint.net, I can pick the "magic wand" tool and select specific items. Once I cut them out, I will select an area close to the "hole" and paste the little section over the "hole". If it looks good and natural, then I would consider it a good way to conceal changes. Sometimes I will use Gimp to blur the area to mix up any areas that have a major color difference.

I've tried many things to try and keep details and remove unwanted things, but right now it seems impossible to repaint them. !**conf**!

Have you tried (if you are using Paint.Net) doing a "Create a Alpha Template" and using it?

I created an Alphla Template and loaded it into Paint.net, but the paint is still there from the original livery. Is there a way you paint locomotives that have the same issue?

What do you mean the original paint is still there? For instance the Pan Am blue is still there?

I've done that before with the C30-7. The template created still has the logos and such still on the texture but are in grey.

The original will have been created with layers of course, but where it's flattened into a single DDS layer (becoming the TgPcDx texture file), you have no choice but to carefully and painstakingly ink over the logo (e.g. Pan Am Railways) with the blue background, gradually mixing the coloration so as to keep the overall texture and appearance and avoid a "shadow" where the logo was.

'I've done it myself with several textures, it's very doable, just requires care and patience.

But make sure you do it do it on one or more layers yourself, so that you can easily edit or even abandon and start again.

Yes sadly it has to come to that. Good advice though so thank you.

Holy cow! I have no clue how this happened. I just opened the .dds file and notice that the alpha layer was dark so I opened it in paint.net and now I have a paint-able template!
