some shots of SD45T-2 that i hope some of you will repaint the original SD45T-2.


I think the SP, CN, UP and the SF are the ones i would like to see.

I don't think we have an SD45T-2 available for RailWorks yet. (Though I sure would love one)

Also as far as I know, Santa Fe and CN never had any tunnel motors. The SD40T-2 and the SD45T-2 were custom built by EMD at the request of Southern Pacific. Cotton Belt and Rio Grande are the only other railroads that bought them. All the tunnel motors owned by KCS, Union Pacific and the leasing companies are second hand.

well Santa Fe may have never had them CN does! CN got all of the DMIR (first picture) SD45T-2's when CN bought DMIR not to long ago. some were repainted into CN with the letters DMIR under the number board on the side of the cab. i think this photo is enough proof!

Every SD45T-2 running today can trace it's heritage back to Southern Pacific (the only road to ever buy them). After the UP-SP merge UP put a lot of them up for auction or sale and other roads purchased them DMIR, KCS, etc. UP kept some, but eventually they were retired or sold.
I would love a SD45T-2. Also that UP picture is a SD40T-2.

and for those who don't know we do have a SD45T-2 in D&RGW livery at the TrainSim.Com file lbrary.

actually i just checked and it is a SD40T-2......well now i must ask what are the visible differences between the SD40T-2 and the SD45T-2? or is it just the power of the engine? i would really like some repaints either way.

The SD45T-2 had a V20 prime mover while the SD40T-2 had a V16. The easiest way of spotting the difference is looking at the back of the locomotive. The SD40T-2 has two panels above the air intake screen while the SD45T-2 has three:


But it's just really splitting hairs. Just like the difference between a F2 and F3 diesel.

Another small difference is that the SD40T-2 has a longer front porch than the SD45T-2:

so to get the sd40T-2 to look like the 45 all we really need to do is change the front portch? i am pretty shure all of the doors and compartments can be painted into place.

Actually the porch wasn't changed. Both locomotives use the exact same frame. The body on the SD45T-2 was just lengthened to make room for the 20 cylinder engine.

so i assume one quick split and extend the cab foreward will do the trick?

More or less. There might be a few other small cosmetic changes to do as well. The current model itself needs a little bit more detailing I think. I wish I could do it but I've never done any modeling myself.

i am shure we could find somebody willing to do just that. maby Trainguy76 to do it after he completes the SD70M. he did a great job on that so i am shure he would do a more than a great job on this project. i guess we just halfto ask him.

Hiya, I cannot do that because I do not have the source files, therefore the shape is not modifiable by me at all. I would have to make the whole thing by myself.

I also am surprised not many here have tried 3d modeling, there are plenty of tutorials on the internet.

i am trying myself but progress is slow but it is comming along. i think it was you who recomended blender right? well it is quite a complicated program for a new person but we all do learn things aslong as we keep at it.
