Reskining Help

Unread postby Goldeneye48 » Sun Oct 23, 2016 11:03 pm

Hello RWA Community,
This is my first reskin of the 2 Bay Hopper that's in the main Kuju folder. I have created all of the graphics and on multiple times converted the graphics to RailWorks Texture format.

The steps that I have taken:
[1] I have copied the the Freight car that I wanted to reskin and renamed it.
[2] Went into RW_Tools to renamed the *.bin file to the renamed name and changed the paths to the renamed folder
[3] Applied the reskin to the car that I want to it applied and saved all files
[4] Launched TS17
[5] Go into a new Free-Roam scenario to place the reskinned freight car that I want to place on the tracks and the freight car does not show up.

I could be missing a step that I don't know of and I need the community's help and guidance to help me complete this reskin project.

Sincerely,
Goldeneye48

Did you copy the geopcdx file as well? That is the actual model file.

Additionally to what Bob said which needs to be checked to see that it's there these are the key lines to make sure it shows up.

<GeometryID d:type="cDeltaString">Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\RailVehicles\Freight\2bay_Covered_Hopper\MRL\Wagon\[00]2bay_covered_hopper</GeometryID>
<CollisionGeometryID d:type="cDeltaString">Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\RailVehicles\Freight\2bay_Covered_Hopper\MRL\Wagon\[00 2bay_covered_hopper</CollisionGeometryID>

I used the MRL as a example. These lines need to read exactly like this only putting in whatever you are using in place of MRL my folder being named MRL. They are about 3/4 of the way down the file.

I basically copied the entire V3 Folder and renamed it to V6.

I also tried to rename that area too to the previous folder name and the model still would not show. I'm going to go through everyone's steps again to make sure I'm doing this correctly. I'll post the results after work.

This was really a tough one. Right at the beginning. You had ver3 which already exists. Change it to ver6. Problem solved. Nice job by the way. The hardest part of these things in the beginning is getting the bin right and the numbers.

Thank you for the compliment.

Made the changes to the *.bin file on my end. Went into Adriana County Route and tried to place the car and still nothing shows up. Can you PM me the changes that you made to the folder that I sent to you? I would like to see the changes that you made.

Sincerely,

I have compared your changes to this repaint and to what I have made and they are exactly the same. I am still dumb founded on why the object is still not being shown on my side. I'm just going to leverage the members here at RWA once I have completed the reskin pack.

I would like to thank buzz456 and everyone else that helped me with this issue. If anyone can recommend an updated reskinning tutorial that would also help too.

Sincerely,

Is it possible that you made some change to V3 or whatever it's using that's causing the problem? I didn't load your whole file just the V6 into my folder.

Sorry for the very late reply. Busy at work. I checked the V3 bin files this weekend and I found no changes. I basically just copied and pasted a copy of the V3 folder in the Kuju folder.

I just feel that I am missing a step on how to TS17 (v58.8a) recognizes the repaint to show the railcar to add to the rails.

I don't know what it would be. I'm on the road but when I get landed I'll pack the version 3 which you alias to and see if that cures the problem. It's something simple we just haven't figured out what it is.

Have you looked at the logmate output when trying to place the wagon in a scenario?
I've used logmate several times to see exactly what was broken/missing/etc. I was able to locate the issue in probably 75% of the cases, so it can definitely help.

Open the Steam desktop app, go to Library, and right click on Train Sim. You should see a "Properties" entry - click on that.
Use the Launch Parameters (I think) button, and add -LogMate to the command line of TS.

Then, (re) start TS - you should get an extra window that will show logging messages.
Now, open a scenario, and try to place your wagon. See if there were any messages about missing files, etc.

If you don't see the log window when you re-start TS, then google "rw logmate steam" as I might have gotten a detail or two wrong above.

Note that you can also add different parameters to -LogMate, so that there aren't so many irrelevant log messages for what you are doing.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Sorry for the very late reply to this post.
I'll see what's happening to the reskin to see what errors its throwing out. Have a Happy New Year!
