This model is a Seaboard Air Line “Green Hornet” reskin of Michael Stephan’s freeware 50ft PS1 Boxcar. The 50ft-PS1 base model can be downloaded at http://www.stephan-michael.de/railsim/p ... ps150.html.

The model is based on a construction article by Justin May in the Seaboard Coast Line Modeler magazine (Issue 27) published by the Atlantic Coast Line & Seaboard Air Line Railroads Historical Society, Inc. (http://www.aclsal.org/ ).

The Green Hornets consisted of varying cushioned boxcar designs that were constructed by American Car and Foundry (ACF), Pullman-Standard, and Thrall Car Manufacturing. The Green Hornets were similarly painted to denote their cushioned equipment, however, as new lettering standards were created, the separate orders were easily distinguished based upon the lettering applied to the cars and the type of boxcar doors and ends.

As the need for smooth interior-lined boxcars rose from a growing paper industry in the southeast during the 1960s, an increase in manufactured goods, glass products, chemicals, food products, cosmetics, tobacco also prompted Seaboard Air Line to respond to customer needs by purchasing new cushioned boxcars.

Special thanks goes to Michael Stephan for his excellent model and repainter’s package. This package is released as freeware. You can do whatever you wish with it EXCEPT make money with its use.
