PRR Diesel font?

Unread postby JohnS » Thu Jul 07, 2016 6:10 am

Hi All, I'm trying to figure out what font and color the PRR used on their GP9 Diesels. I can't seem to find a straight answer for this loco. I find steam, stations, and freight cars. *!!thnx!!*

It says that particular font was used on passenger coaches in the 1930's. Would it be the same on the GP9's? I can't get the textures to export correctly anyway, so at this point until I can figure out what the manual in the kit is having me do vs the programs trying to do something different it's dead.

I've got a 1939 Pennsylvania railroad locomotives and cars book, just a little thing they have out as promotional stuff I think back then. The only diesel in it ( the rest of the locomotives are steam or electric) is a little SW. I figure the font would probably be the same for the geeps. As for colour, isn't all of there fonts yellow?

Just saw this post about PRR Equipment.

Technically, over the years, there were two shades of "gold" used. Until 1953, the lettering color of choice was a color called out by many as Bronze Gold. It held onto an appearance of a Gold Leaf color (This is my personal favorite of the lettering colors). Pennsy's Passenger equipment, and motive power utilized this lettering color and striping color until the 1953 changeover, which changed all striping and lettering to a yellower looking gold (Commonly being called out as Dulux Gold), that was utilized into the 60's (On numbering anyway) and up until the PC Merger.

For lettering until the 1950's, I highly recommend either the font "Clarendon HV BT," or "Pennsyvania." Font would have more of a romanesque appearance. Depending on the locomotive being painted up and it's delivery date would also make all the difference in which color and style the lettering would be.

For the Bronze Gold, I'll recommend RGB Values: 148:130:107. If you want Dulux Gold (1953 on), I recommend RGB Values 198:144:36 (Both captured from highly accurate decals).

Hope this helps a little bit.
