Ammeter, the myth and legend.

Unread postby BNSFdude » Sat Jun 11, 2016 12:54 pm

While working on the D8/9 pack, I've run into an annoying issue. After putting correct physics values (TE vs speed, TE vs Throttle, Max Power at Rail, etc etc) in, the Ammeter now no longer displays values that coincide with how much work the locomotive should actually be putting out. For example with a 6000 ton train at 23 MPhil on a steady 2.2% grade in N3, it's putting out only 166 amps, when in actuality it should be putting about 500 Ish amps out.

I know I've seen a post on this issue before in the past but I cannot find the discussion.

Nothing like "fixing" a functioning piece of equipment ensures that it stops working completely.
!!howdy!!

Maybe it's the tractive effort...most modern *AC* freight locomotives display the tractive effort anyways. See FanRailer's GEVO physics mod.

I'm a locomotive engineer... The only engines that display TE instead of Amps are AC traction locomotives and DC EVOs/M-2s.

Is it the simulation or the locomotive .bin file that makes the (HUD or in-cab) ammeter read 166?

It's the HUD and in cab HUD reading below normal values.
Not sure which is causing it, hence why I asked here....

The issue with the current game engine is that ammeter readings are directly tied to tractive effort. Therefore, there is no real way to get the ammeter to display true-to-life amp readings when you input true-to-life tractive effort values. It's a pick one-or-the-other compromise.
