About Car Mass and Capacity --- Help

Unread postby jalsina » Fri Mar 18, 2016 10:03 pm

I am with those flatcars loaded with the M1A2 Abrams MBT that I have described in:
http://railworksamerica.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=16074
I have done my homework searching the forum but I have found some confusing results.

Here is how I understand this subject:
The flatcars have a "mass" parameter and a child cargo component with a "capacity" parameter, and which is different from the tank childs, which do not use any weight parameter beacuse they are only references to their GeoPcDx model.

1) I understand that the mass is the weight of the empty car and when the units are not defined, the indicated quantity is in metric tons (as it was in MSTS by default).
2) The capacity quantity in the cargo component child is the weight of the cargo when the car is 100% loaded and is also in metric tons when other units are not specified.
3) For any car you may specify a 40 or 50% or whatever load %. This is intended for bulk but can be used for boxcars and even containers or autoracks if I wanted an average loading.

However in this particular flatcar with two tanks loaded, I believe I should use a "mass" value with the full weight, that is the sum of the car LT WT plus the two Abrams weights. We are talking here between 150-155 metric tons gross weight.
Therefore in that case the capacity in the cargo component should be set to zero tons.
If I don´t do that any consist made with the the custom editor (QD) will leave those cars empty. In the Build scenario editor the cars are sometimes placed empty (others loaded) and their loading must be adjusted by right clicking it and adjusting the icon load.

What do you think about this idea of placing all weight in the mass and leaving the capacity in zero and am I right with the units I mentioned above?
Your comments will be very appreciated :D

Can you see what values were used for the other loads for the same flatcar? (ie: the M2 Bradley and HMMVW)

Yes.
The mass is 30 which is somewhat below to the real thing and the cargo is 42 for the Bradleys, Humvees 12 and recons 52, if I remember well the Bradleys are not right, but not far from their values. My intention is not touching those values for the moment.

But my inquiry is related with a method besides confirming the weight units. If I do a consist in the custom editor, with lets say 10 Bradley cars, the total mass of the train will be 30*10=300 mt instead of (30+42)*10=720. This is my concern of changing the method and placing all weight into the mass value as if the flatcar weighed 150 mt, with 0 in the cargo. No erros at all then.

But I may be doing some mistake I am not aware of. !**duh*!!

Since there is nothing that contradicts my ideas, I have decided to go with all weight in the flatcar mass with the capacity in zero. !!*ok*!!
I am going to release 3 different flatcar versions with these loads:
#4 2xM1 - mass 160t
#5 1xM1 + 1xM2- mass 124t
#6 1xM1 - mass 97t
The flatcar has been set with an LT WT of 35t. The M1 Abrams at 62t and the M2 Bradley at 27t.
All capacities set at zero.
t units are metric tons.
In the real world the flatcar for load #4 and #5 should require 2 bogeys of 3 axles each. !*don-know!*

The only requirement for those flatcars will be having the DTG February Train Simulator Rewards. !!det!!
