Unable to export

Unread postby aksingha » Sat Jan 31, 2015 3:08 am

Hi,
I am trying to export a loco model to RW but i always get an error message and the exporting fails "converttogeo.exe: ERROR: (1 + vIndexMax - vIndexMin) <= gMaxIndexRange". I searched the forum and got some results, so the problem is having too many vertices/faces. But i think there might be some other reasons, because it is the same model that i have exported before in my old pc..but as i got a new PC recently, i made some modifications to the model because i was not able to backup some files. And my model currently have 84,268 poly and 104,901 vertices. I have been able to export models with much higher faces/vertices before, but this particular loco is having problems. Have anyone here ever encountered a similar problem. Please help me solve this isssue

There may be a corruption in part of the mesh. You'll need to isolate it by breaking off whole objects and export to test. Once the culprit is found, create a new box, center to the world axis, convert to mesh, and then attach the corrupted part identified earlier. Tedious, but without other info, that's about the only way you're going to be able to solve this.

I tried as you instructed and found the corrupted part. Also attached it to the new box but should i do next..how will i fix the part...or do i need to make the part again. The part is quite complex and and will take lot of time to re-build.. *!sad!*

Check for untextured polys and/or unsupported material types.

Using the box as the parent should reset the corrupted part to normal. You should now be able to add it back to the model and export as usual.

Attaching the box does not seem to work, maybe i am missing something. I did some more modification and have come up with some more results.
I am not sure which specific part is having problem. The part that is having problem are two different loco parts that are attached together and uv mapped. One is the main engine body with all the screws and other smaller details and the other is the buffer along with the brake pipes. Actually the buffer was previously attached to different loco part which i rearranged and attached to the main body to decrease the number of material slots.
So, what i did now was detach the buffer and its parts from the main body. then i first exported the main body individually to check if it was problematic, but it exported successfully then again i exported the buffer and it too got exported without problem. but the error comes up when i attach these two parts(both share same uv map), the export fails with the message i mentioned on my main post.

That part may need to be it's own named object. I had a similar instance with a bridge with a lot of small detail. Once I broke off the details and named them as their own object within the scene and used only for the primary LOD, I was able to export to IGS and then to Geo. I don't why this happens, but may be due to too many vertices in a very small area, as I have other models with 4x the detail and export without issue. Just the stuff with the small bits gives me trouble from time to time.

Thank you for the help, finally solved it. Just broke down the parts and re-made the corrupted part. Now it is fine
